The Witney Blanket Hall
"Witney Blanket Hall was built in 1721 by the Company of Blanket Makers. For over 120 years, every blanket woven in the town came to the Hall to be weighed and measured, and upstairs in the Great Room the Company set the Rules for the Trade. In 2015, the Hall reopened its doors to reveal this illustrious past and offer woollen blankets and throws, coffee pies and assemblies, both commercial and cultural. Visitors are always welcome and are invited to come and find out more about the infamous Witney Blankets. The Pie Shop offers its famous pies and platters, as well as tea, coffee and cakes. We are licenced so wine and Blanket Hall Beer are always available."

Just great. A little bit of calm in a busy world. A hidden gem in Witney. If you just want a cup of tea a cream tea or the full works pie you will not be disappointed. Friendly, helpful and efficient staff.
Everything you could want from a woolen blanket shop. Lots of throws, scarves and picnic blankets all set out in a museum to the Witney woolen trade. Just a pity the pie shop would not take dogs inside. As it was raining we had to give it a miss.
The place is a museum and a cafe at the same time, it has got everything tha concerns the local trade history. If you are in for a speedy meal you are NOT in the right place. It will take ages to get your food, even if you are the only table. But if you don't have time expectation, do take some time to enjoy the exhibition by the toilets and the beautiful garden with a view on the river. It is worth it. Overall a beautiful visit and the food by the way, is actually great. Carefu,l the plates are boiling hot!
If you need to know anything about Witney blankets , this little known museum is the place to make your way to. Blankets are for sale and come in various colours prices and patterns ,that will in time become heirlooms . The product has an amazing history that even has links to Native Americans !...The rear of the building has a small cafe which serves delicious home made pies and scones....in summer a beautiful seating area with the river running by.
Historic hub of the blanket industry of Witney. Beautifully restored. Pie shop cafe and beautiful garden down to the riverside. Friendly staff. Museum and shop of the blanket industry doesn't mention the shameful Early's of Witney 2002 pension scandal. But totally recommend a visit.
I did call ahead as we were a group of ten. They laid out a lovely table for us in our own private area. Everyone ate everything and everything was delicious. The one year old loved the Pease pudding. The menu varies we had steak and ale, chicken bacon and leek, and spinach and mushroom pies followed by cakes and coffee. A wonderful atmosphere, wheelchair accessible and nice toilets.. We couldn't stay all day but we wanted to.
Really lovely people and food. Great place to sit in the sun.
Worth a visit. Run by volunteers who have worked hard with the building. Built on a burgage plot. Good tea roomVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
