Story

The White Lion Hotel gracefully combines ‘olde worlde’ charms with a contemporary look and feel. We offer 15 comfortable, unique hotel rooms including four poster beds and family rooms. Guests can also make use of the function and conference facilities as well as the restaurant, serving quality fresh food sourced from the best suppliers. The pub remains the heart and soul of the White Lion Hotel and food is our speciality. The exceptional environment, combined with a fantastic menu, excellent fresh food offer and superb drinks selection means you won’t be disappointed. Diners and drinkers alike can also enjoy one of our many real ales or wines selected from around the world. The town of Tenterden itself has been described as ‘the Jewel of the Weald’, with wide tree lined streets, Tudor buildings and a host of specialist shops. Out and about there are picture postcard villages to explore and an abundance of historical landmarks, including the renowned gardens of Sissinghurst Castle and also Leeds Castle, set in five hundred acres of parkland. Hotel accommodation room rates start at £93.95 including our fantastic breakfast. Please note that from May - September and bank holidays, Saturday is a minimum of two night's stay (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday) Corporate rates are also available, please contact us for details

I stayed two nights at the White Lion for a little break with my Mum and we had the most perfect stay! The rooms were clean, well decorated and were very well equipped. Matty was extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble - we were very well looked after. We had a delicious roast on the Sunday too which we could not fault. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning. Thank you Matty & the White Lion team.
We stayed at the White Lion on New Year’s Eve. We received a very warm welcome from Matty and his staff. Nothing was too much trouble for Matty. My husband has mobility problems and Matty was helpful and considerate - helping up and down stairs.nOur room was a little small for us but very clean, warm and comfortable. As was the en-suite We were perfectly happy with it.nThe breakfast was excellent. A choice of fruits etc and pastries followed by a beautifully cooked breakfast- of which there was a very good choice. In particular our vegetarian friend was well catered for. Also, plenty of coffee.nThe location is excellent on the high street and there is plenty of parking at the hotel.nWe were given to understand that Matty has only been in charge for about a month - he is doing a very good job.nI would highly recommend the White Lion.

The pub was spotless, and it's clear that the team takes pride in maintaining a pristine environment for their guests.nnThroughout our day, Matty and Maddie were incredibly supportive and ensured that any minor issues were promptly resolved. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is unparalleled and truly sets The White Lion in Tenterden apart from other establishments.nnI wholeheartedly recommend The White Lion in Tenterden to anyone seeking a memorable experience, superb service, and an impeccably maintained venue. Never usually ever leave a review, however I was sent an email prompt asking for feedback on my experience and was going to email a complaint as my first instance until this landed in my inbox.nnThe 2 stars are purely for the taste of the food alone.nWe dined for our anniversary, our first night out without children since our second baby was born 9 months ago and left bitterly dissatisfied.nnWaited 55 minutes for our meals, with absolutely no service in between. Nobody took a drinks order bar leaving us with a water jug on arrival.nWe weren’t notified of such a long wait prior to ordering, should we have known, we would have left beforehand.nA cheese pizza and a burger, does not need to take such a long time to deliver to the table, if they were more focused on the 5 other tables they had in, aside the large wealthy table they were all pandering over, they would have likely delivered far better timing and service.nnThe table next to us waited 50 minutes for their puddings, to realise the girl had not even put them through on the system, after they had also waited a thoroughly long time for their food too!nnAlongside this, the service was pretty dire, non existent and when it did exist, the man on duty was rude, hurried and only care for fussing over said large table.nn9pm rolled around and then we were greeted with blaringly loud live music, we would usually not be bothered by this, however after the awful experience and the fact we were trying to enjoy our child free conversation, we could no longer hear each other the loud voice singing and banging of music, again something that was never told to us on arrival & would have avoided if we had known!nWe paid for our meal and left.nnA truly awful experience for a special night, we have dined here on many occasions with our children and will be very reluctant to do so again!
Had new year's day lunch in the pub and the food was delicious! Really lovely fresh sea bass and turbot mains, Dorset crab and crayfish for starter, yummy homemade bread & butter pudding dessert. A great wine list. Our waiter the restaurant manager was a sweetheart, exceptional service
