The White Lion

Story

The White Lion is, and always has been, a traditional pub. It has previously been names as a heritage inn by Tetleys for it's long history and internal decor.

The pub dates back as far as 1781 when John Hasland was the Innkeeper for well over 20 years. Since then it has had many numerous Landlords, including such notables as Jonathan Woden - who was a famous 19th century cricketer - and Billy Mardsen of 1930s Sheffield Wednesday fame.

Scattered throughout the pub's various rooms and annexes you will find many pictures and documents which relate the history of The White Lion, all of which add to the ambience and make an interesting read.

The current management and staff team are dedicated to keeping the authentic feel of this magnificent pub alive by creating the warm and friendly atmosphere that real pubs are all about.

Good to go to my old stomping ground. Live music on. Brilliant. Loads of beers on offer, which is good and bad. Quality perhaps not great. Service good. Toilet hand dryer is worse than useless. Take something to dry hands. We will go back.
Top 'proper' pub. Bar billiards table, darts board and arcade machine. Live music on most nights.
Brilliant table service, staff on the ball with everything. Great music night!
Borrowed a book of the Landlord. Haven't read it. He won't let me forget it. However the pub is gorgeous and there's a nice beer selection. Grest for meetings as there's some lovely litle nooks to hide in. Always a pleasure.
Lovely old boozer with its little rooms still in tact with a great range of beers !
Love the white lion! There is such a Cody feel to the place. Lots of different areas where you can sit as a group without disturbing others. The ale choice is great! And it's kept well too. I'd love this place as a local.
I moved into the are two years ago, and somehow only just got around to visiting this true gem of a pub. A gorgeous traditional atmosphere, good proper ales, and seemingly an endless stream of incredible live music performances. What more could you ask for?
Less said the better.
White lion has great beer, even a dark bitter, beautiful tiles, two cosy little rooms and friendly bar staff. Tree breads session on the 3rd Tuesday of the Monday was welcoming to first timers. Even though I'm often folked off I enjoyed the session. Good night.
Many happy times at this pub with friends and family and my favourite daughter Mandy and Jon, great hosts
