The Wheatsheaf

About

A Wetherspoons with a lot of character!

Story

The Wheatsheaf has been a local landmark since at least 1818, when it was Stoke's leading coaching inn.

By 1834, the thrice-weekly coach, which ran between Newcastle-under-Lyme and Derby, called at The Wheatsheaf. After the opening of the railway, there were omnibuses from The Wheatsheaf to meet each train at the station. By then, however, the arrival of the railway had signalled the end of the coaching era.

The Wheatsheaf has been a Wetherspoons pub for over 12 years now and we specialise in Real Ale (Cask Marque accredited and Good Beer Guide since 2008 and Camra Pub of the Month in July 2010) offering a discount to CAMRA members on production of their membership card.

We also serve great food and have a wide range of drinks to choose from with fantastic offers on food and drink everyday!

This is a message to who I was advised was the managernNext month I am 70 years old, I have spent a lifetime of work in the service industrynI do not expect to be spoken to like a child.nI have visited Weatherspoons literally, all over the UK. Nowhere have I been spoken to in the manner you chose to speak to me today. I have also never been told to crowd the bar to be served.nPoliteness is still a necessity and I do not expect to be told by a ‘manager’ to crowd in and take my place.nAlso, for the last fifty years I have witnessed many good bar people and to a man, they all knew who was next to be served. If you and your staff are unable to follow this simple, standard staff requirement, then I suggest it is not your customers who require training, rather your staff!! Never forget, they all follow the direction of their manager. Except for those who came long before you and are always aware of good customer service.
Disappointing. Smokers are gathered directly outside the door so their fumes waft in. The staff and service were friendly and professional. It was not overly busy, more drinkers than diners. Medium & medium rare steaks were ordered. All were thin cut probably correct weight and well done, dry & disappointing. We visit Wetherspoons regularly all over the country - if this had been a first visit it did not leave a good impression.
Nice large breakfast. Friendly fast service
This was a fantastic pub for a pint before my train, with a vintage and compact interior! Counter is well-presented and seating was comfortable, where I had a tasty pint of Stowford press.
Great little pub, after walking through what looked like Beirut to get here I’m very impressed, great pint and great food
