The Vines

About

Nestling in the picturesque village of Black Bourton, TheVines’ traditional stone exterior promises a warm Cotswold welcome. Ideally located for those on business in Oxford, Swindon, Witney and Brize Norton.

Story

The Vines Restaurant and Bar were famously designed and decorated by John Clegg of the BBC Real Rooms Team. It is stunning and quite different to what you might expect from the beautiful Cotswold stone and vines exterior.

Two nights at The Vines Inn with family and the dog. Marketing photos oversell it a bit — driveway’s full of potholes, gardens overgrown, cobwebs and dead bugs about the place. Bit tired overall.nnStaff and manager were brilliant though, really accommodating with the dog. Rooms were small and a bit noisy but fine for a short stay. Food was excellent, easily the highlight — breakfast was good too, though I reckon the bacon should be fried, not microwaved.nnFair pricing for what you get. Hospitality’s five stars, upkeep needs work. I reckon a bit of investment in maintenance would go a long way.
We recently stayed at The Vines Hotel after being impressed by the website photos, but unfortunately our experience didn’t live up to expectations.nWe paid £803 for four rooms for one night and were allocated rooms at the back of the main building. These rooms felt very run down and quite grotty. The carpets and décor are in real need of updating, which made the stay feel disappointing from the outset.nOur bathroom smelt so bad that we couldn’t use it and had to rely on the children’s bathroom instead. In another room, our parents found a fridge that still contained opened food from a previous guest, which was very off-putting and raised concerns about cleanliness.nWe had chosen the hotel partly so we could enjoy some time together after visiting The Farmer’s Dog, but when we returned at 10:30pm we were told the till was already closed, meaning we couldn’t even have a final drink together. This felt like a missed opportunity for what should have been a welcoming and sociable stay.nBreakfast the next morning was also very disappointing considering the price we had paid. There were no menus, and we were simply told they could do a “full breakfast,” leaving us guessing what to order. The food itself was poor—the eggs were overcooked and solid, the bacon very fatty, and the beans hard. I ended up not eating mine at all.nOverall, it’s such a shame because with some care and attention this could be a really lovely place to stay. Unfortunately, our experience fell well below expectations and did not reflect the standard suggested online.

We hope to stay again when the weather gets netter we will be backnThanks again Ally & KynYou were great xxx
We had a lovely stay . Location was great for our visit to the Cotswolds wild life park .nWe had 3 family rooms , which were situated a short walk from the main hotel but convenient to take luggage in !nWe had a twin shower room located in the main hotel.nBreakfast was cereal, yogurts , juices, fruits toasts and jams and full English . Hot breakfast was cooked to order so it was always hot.nStaff were lovely and helpful .nWe didn’t eat at the hotel but believe they are now starting theme night .
We had an excellent stay and we were very well looked after. Lovely staff, nothing was too much trouble. We were delighted that it is dog friendly and our older girl had a stress free 3 night stay. We will be back for sure. A lovely base for our visit to various places throughout the Cotswolds.
