Great food, great service, friendly staff. Food served within 10 minutes of ordering on a Saturday! What's not to love. Well done guys!
We had a nice lunch stop at Tollgate. Downloaded the app and ordered. All brought to the table. Nice atmosphere and nice to hear chatting as groups after so long in lockdown. Only complaint, if I did have one, nothing dark to drink.. Ale. Belhaven Black is a Greene King beer, just an alternative to pale, please.
Been going to the Tollgate a few years now and never had a bad experience. All the staff have been pleasant and friendly. Went recently for a friends birthday meal and the food was exquisite and scrumptious and came out all together and in a timely manner. Cheers to all the team.
Arrived to find only one member serving behind bar and very busy. We had table booked and was told where our table was and that a member of staff would come and take our order at the table. Half an hour later still waiting, so we wrote our down what we wanted and took it to bar. Result finally got our drinks. Food was nice and hot when it arrived. Was then asked if we wanted dessert… ordered .. then told no meringue for Eton mess, so declined. Then asked for coffee/ tea, was then informed the machine had been switched off..very disappointing as I had been here a few weeks ago and couldn’t fault it. Hence only 2 stars.
So disappointed. I booked a table for 9 people. When we arrived we were told by a member of staff they were no longer serving food despite us having booked. They had been given my telephone number at the time of booking and no one had called to make us aware of this. We were then told as we had booked they would serve us food. We were shown to our table. Nobody explained how we ordered eg whether we ordered at the bar or if someone comes to take the order at the table. We chose what we wanted from the menus left on our table, went to the bar to order to be told that they were only serving roast dinners. We had chosen this pub because of their extensive menu which was suitable for the children we had taken. No one had previously told us this change to their menu. We decided to leave. The service was appalling. We didn’t get to try their food so can’t comment on that but certainly the service was terrible and left a large family disappointed and hungry!
The good bits The staff were friendly and the location was a great location for 20 family members to share a meal. Also great value for money The person who arrange the event was encouraged or order in advance but when we arrived we were advised that half the menu was not available so it was a waist of time preordering. The negative bits It would have been nice if Green King had of advised us in advance that they were having internal industrial issue with the unions which will impact our meal in advance. More than 50% of the items we preordered were not available. But the staff coped really well and tried to make up for issues as best they could. The meals that were available were a good quality. Maybe we will try again when the industrial action has calmed down as I imagine it could be a four or five star rating.
Came in with a party of 8, from London, Essex, Australia and Canada. They said the menu was limited at the moment but I had a delicious veggie curry with sides. Clean, good atmosphere cufragrarice
Disappointed, ran out of fish and chips by 3 pm, then desserts, then no tea? The food we had was ok, but desserts and real let down, no where near as good as before, quality wasn't good and Eton mess was only half a dessert as not the full ingredients. Seemed very disorganized and we all felt let down.
Had a lovely Christmas meal and dessert, both were very very nice. The staff were all very friendly. Peter was very good, checking along the way that everything was fine. It was !
Went here for pre Christmas meal Menu looked good. But as for actual food it was not as expected. One of us had a steak which was tough. In fact debated who was having new sole on there boots. Pie lid was so hard could not cut it and did not break when banged on table. Boots and Frisbee sorted. Dessert was apple and blackberry crumble. Which consisted of slice of stewed apple on pastry base with crumble and swimming in dark pool of mush and Berry skin. You had to see it to be fair. Cheeseboard was equally disappointing. 4 very thin slices of cheddar and 4 tiny squares of brie about 12 crackers. Table booked, food pre ordered. All served late and long wait between courses. Will I visit or reccomend. No. But on positive note serving staff lovely and helpful.
