The Toll Gate in Turnpike lane. Recently sold by Spoons. New owners haven’t changed much bar putting in a darts board and a pool table. Means the place has remained cheap while managing to actually get better. Nice decor. Chill spot with great staff. I’m in a booth so hence the random pics. And the carpet is refreshingly twee.
Won't lie, a bit grimy, but to be fair, we did stumble in sometime after 10pm on a Friday. That being said, the bar staff were on it and wait times weren't too crazy. Nice big outdoor seating area. It is split, in a sense, so half of it was only accessible by going into the pub, but what of it? Great casual vibe, no room for airs and a good place to get hammered at a reasonable price
Classical pub with a great atmosphere…but a top of this place is a kitchen, chef is an absolute star, you can’t even compare to anything around. Especially classical breakfast!Food: 5/5
This place is no longer a Wetherspoons! It used to be a great place to visit, but it has declined under new management. The atmosphere is unwelcoming, and the closing times seem unpredictable. They really need to update their opening times online. The Toll Gate used to be a place where people could come together and have a good time, but I will be avoiding this pub from now on.
If ever in the Wood Green, London area, be sure to stop by. We were in North London for just a couple of days and The Toll Gate was within walking distance. Jordan and his crew were really friendly, they made us feel so welcomed. The beer was excellent too! My husband had some "Proper" English beer and I had some delicious apple cider. Highly recommended this place
Beer is fine, it’s lovely and quite spacious, but they post on here that their closing time on Sunday is 12:30 and they actually shut at 10:40. Well, the bartender told me that they shut at 11 and then a security guy came around and told me to leave at by 10:40 so I guess that’s the real closing time. Probably won’t be back as I’m not sure I can trust a place that closes a full two hours before its stated closing time.
Having lived round the corner from the Toll Gate for a number of years now I've never ventured inside however tried our luck to catch a football game. The TV wasn't on at the time but the staff very helpfully obliged. The beer was cheap, and we had a lovely time. Will definitely be back.
Not sure if it's me but every Wetherspoon pub I get food from seems to struggle in some way or another. First it took absolutely ages to turn up, it did arrive hot which I was surprised about considering the time it took, eggs way overcooked, mushroom on the big breakfast, well I have attached a picture of it rolling around on a hash brown, just one sad pathetic suicidal looking mushroom. If it wasn't for the £1.2o unlimited refill coffee I would be unhappy
Lovely and spacious pub. Friendly staff. I liked the decor, especially the booths. Very cosy. Good music. Affordable prices. Great location. Didn't have anything to eat as it was late.Service: 4/5
Nice pints - a good spoons. Nice architecture, lighting, layout and wall decorations. Plenty of space. Nice mix of folk. It's a bit shabby and smelly but it wouldn't be a spoons if it wasnt... and for under £3 a Guinness I'm happy!
