Didn’t stay in hotel but met a friend there for lunch. As it’s recently been refurbished we were expecting good things. Just awful. Bar didn’t know what Worcester sauce was for tomato juice! Limited menu. We were the only two in the whole of the restaurant and had to ask if they could clear out plates. They had no sorbet even though it was on the menu and the service was awful. To be honest we mentioned were told “Well we were changing over shifts” No wonder we were the only two there!! Would not recommend anyone going for lunch there. Left £60 poorer and very dissatisfied.
After passing the hotel for many years on our way to see friends we decided to stay on our visit this year. The hotel has been recently refurbished but.... As lovely as the room was it had very uncomfortable pillows and lacked light. With the curtains closed there was no main room light or lamp above the mirror. It was clean and the staff we friendly and lovely. I would stay here again.
This HOTEL HAS CLOSED DOWN AND HAS BEEN CLOSED SINCE LOCKNOWN. I Booked a room and Paid in advance, on arrival I found it to be Tottaly empty with the door bars with wood the whole outside looked derelict and filthy. After been so dismayed I went to local pub they said they had had many people come and say they had booked but the hotel has been closed since beginning of lockdown and never re opened . BEWARE they will take your money and confirm booking but there is no way they will be open for a very long time It is totally run down.
I stayed recently for work. The reception staff were very friendly on arrival and I was very pleasantly surprised with my room after reading negative reviews. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and it had a very pleasant view over the river. The evening meal was one of the best I've had in a hotel in a long time, the service was also very friendly and helpful. On waking I was going to give the hotel 5 stars. But then we went down for breakfast. We were told to choose a table and if it was dirty it would be cleaned soon, it was dirty from the last guests and was not cleaned during our seating. We waited for a long time to try and get served, eventually the lady came over and said our breakfast would be with us shortly, I explained we hadn't ordered it yet, she looked confused. We didn't have long so I asked if we could order quickly. She took our order, then delivered tea to a neighbouring table. She left the room and the poor man had to search another table for a cup. We eventually got our breakfast after 45 minutes, which was absolutely delicious, but unfortunately I only had time to eat a third of it before having to leave for our meeting. The stay was perfect, but the breakfast service needs addressing. All guests were giving each other knowing looks at the service.
The rooms were clean and tidy. The Riverside views from our balcony while sat at the table in the room were amazing. The staff were freindly. The ros are comfortable. The hotel itself could do with a little maintainence, a repaint of the outside would improve kerb appeal. Such a lovely location.
The hotel is very old you can tell by the amenities that a renovation is way overdue I stayed here for 4 nights and was initially given a room on the second floor. My hot water knob was broken and stuck at near 40'C. Obviously too hot to stand in a shower for longer than 10 seconds After following up with reception I was moved to a room on the first flier and the water was just never hot enough. Just like warm though better than the very hot one Both rooms were corner rooms. Nice view of the river. I did find the lighting a bit lacking in both it just felt awfully dark. Cleanliness could be improved. I opened the kettle trying to boil some water for coffee and I have never been more disgusted in my life. There was white stuff stuck around the bottom. Obviously had not been cleaned in a very very long time Room service is ridiculously overpriced. Simple beef burger and fries is £14 and a £3 room service fee. You definitely get what you pay for in terms of the rooms The staff however are very very helpful.
Great hotel and lovely setting. The buildings are a little older than the modern chains but it has british charm. There was a small issue with my room and the manager fixed it as soon as possible. He gave me a complementary item while I was waiting for the issues to be solved. I had my lunch in the bar and the staff were fantastic. A friendly woman called Trish kepted me company while working away. She made my stay enjoyable and told me about the local area. Great staff and superb service. I'd stay again if I'm passing.
I've never had a more horrendous hotel experience. My stay was in 2017 but looks like the problems still exist. The rooms in the annex were dusty and smelled like an old folks home. I asked to move and one room in the main house was found for me. It was terribly dated and the bathroom drains left a lot to be desired, but seemed like a better option than sleeping in the car later I realised this would have been a better option. It was summer and hot, so I opened the sash windows. It was at this point that all the spiders crawled out of every crevice. I looked on all the hotel booking sites but couldn't find any vacancies anywhere nearby. Obviously I also couldn't sleep, so stayed awake until about 2am and watched the walls, counting 37 spiders in total until I couldn't force my eyes to stay open any longer. I had work the next day, and struggled through the day. Needless to say I'd NEVER book this place EVER again.
It's such a shame I couldn't give this higher! The hotel its self has so much potential and I feel it could only take abit of TLC to make at least a star if not make it 5. The building has been left to have dam all over the place, resulting in mould and wallpaper coming off. The windows in our room were bolted shut and the other patched together from wood rot. I'm 6'3 and the bathroom is one for much smaller people, let alone the knee in shower provided. We opted for the B&B option... The is a MUST NOT!! Trust me save your money for when the hotel actual gets their act together! Barely cooked bacon, too oil drenched sausages and mushrooms. Poor fella left to his own for 40+ guests and was left really not serving the guests as best he should. I would of actually make a less starred rating had it not of been for the reception. They listened and handed our problems and annoyance well and very understanding. I reiterate, this only needs some fine tuning to turn this whole place around....just get the feeling it's going to be flats in a few years if not.
The hotel is very.. Quaint. The floors are creaky and the tap water in my particular room wasn't very tea/coffee friendly. There was no refrigerator in the room which I stayed in. Dust accumulated very quickly. There doesn't appear to be an elevator. My room was on the third floor. The view is nice. The staff are friendly. It's very close to the town. It is reasonably priced.
