My idea of what a very good hotel should be. Everything about it is excellent. From service to food, accommodation, appearance and location. I would mark it 12 out 10 every time.

I've been here 11 years ago in March and much is the same as I remembered with the exception of the welcoming new owner Alan. Some of the decor is different but the bar, the restaurant & open hearth fireplace is as I remember...warm & comfortable. The Stronlossit has the additional distinction being one of the pubs where some of the cast members of the movie Rob Roy, starring Liam Neeson and Jessica Lange while they were filming in this area I had the headache and chips with a pint of fine cask conditioned ale that was exceptional. The North Sea Haddock was a whole side fillet cooked just right.

Located clearly off the main road, it's a beautiful building in a stunning location a stone's throw from Fort William. The service is great as the staff are lovely. We stayed here for our climb of Ben Nevis and it was well worth it. The food is homely and filling with plenty of local food with good wine, beer and whisky. The rooms are of mid to high quality and their en-suite was the best around, a full sized bath too. May not be the cheapest option but you get what you pay for.

We arrived at around 6 pm to check in after a long cold road trip through the national park. 1. We were invited in our room and it was Freezing cold. The radiator was not working. The lady was nice enough to fix it but she was not sure in first place was working.... 2. Wanted a hot drink in our room. Started the cattle and it started leaking water on the actual electrical outlet. Asked the lady for a replacement 3. Asked for password to connect to wifi. Did not work. Had to go to bar and a young lady there managed to make it work after 10-15 minutes of waiting. 4. The radiator in the bathroom stopped working although initially was working 5. The sink in the bathroom would not drain unless you hold down the drain release 6. I could not sleep because I could hear the steps of the people in the room above us on squeaky floors 7. Everything on the menu is super expensive (nothing in a variety of price range) 8. The bathroom ventilator has a device inside the actual hotel room that make a loud noise 9. The shower gel is in a very small sachet barely enough to wash 8. The staff is accommodating and trying to fix things but there is a certain awkwardness and unfriendliness we felt. When we went to the patio the lady kept stairing at us, probably hoping we actually order dinner. 9. There were very few people in the dining area which indicate that probably a lot of customers eat elsewhere cheaper and nicer and better and the atmosphere was quite sad. So we decided to skip dinner. 10. I felt an awkward pushing on to order breakfast when all I wanted to know was just the price. I was not decided to order. Same for dinner. All in all not a great experience and I think they should address all these issues before continuing to provide the service. The staff was nice but that's not enough, in my opinion. When arriving to a hotel one should not have to spend 30 minutes to figure out all of the above, especially after a tiring day.
