We visited this establishment on February 1st and what a disappointment this was. We have always enjoyed going - great atmosphere with good value for money when buying food. I ordered gammon, chips, peas and pineapple. Presentation is obviously a word that is not in the vocabulary of the pub. as they do not know the meaning of the word. Food was literally thrown onto the plate. The peas had been so overcooked they were very pale and the gammon was black around the edges. My husband ordered the burger which was nearly £12 and it was only warm. It hindsight I should have asked for the chef to have shown us the temperature with a food probe as it was certainly lower than it should have been. Nobody asked us whether the meal was OK until the end! The waitress did not comment when we expressed out displeasure. This pub is a member of Ember Inns which is usually consistent. The Star is seriously letting down the reputation of the chain.

Lovely historic pub that has been kept up on refurbishments over the years. Lost its traditional feel but is cosy and pleasant. Good food. Excellent cask ale. Popular throughout the week. Very busy on the weekend evenings. Weekday lunch times and the 5 o'clock hour can be a little overrun with tradesmen in for a few beers with colourful language. Can be an issue for young families.
