Visited here by chance a few years ago and as we were back in the area, gave it another go for Sunday lunch. Nothing really to rave or complain about, hence the solid 4 star rating. We went for a Sunday roast and the best way to describe it... Tasty, plentiful and fairly priced, what more could you want. The only reason for not giving a 5 star is the slow cooked beef isn't my preference for a Sunday roast but like I said, it was a tasty plate of food. We'd happily stop in again if the area so would also recommend based on our experience. There were a fair few tables reserved which is usually a good sign!
Excellent find a nice atmosphere. We sat in the beer garden which had a guy singing swing music which was great but a tad loud. would recommend for a pleasant Sunday afternoon drink
We went on a Sunday just for a catch up, snack and a drink. Unfortunately when we first got there, there was no snacks or even crisps only full roast dinners. The staff seemed a bit dizzy. However after our first drink we were offered a bowl of cheesy chips that went down very well. These along with the cool music and lovely setting made for a very pleasant afternoon.
Lovely comfortable pub with friendly staff. It's a great place to grab food and drink after a walk on the seafront with a good selection of ales and wines plus a great choice of food. Dog friendly and accepts Apple Pay / contactless.
The Ship Inn is a Grade II Listed Building and the oldest pub in Herne Bay. The current pub was probably built in the mid-1600s, although it’s history dates back to 1385. Approaching the coastline via East Street, the pub’s exterior looks like it needs a little loving care. In fact, when I tried to find the front entrance it wasn’t obviously open. When I went inside, however, it exceeded my expectations! The interior is large, clean and spacious - wooden floors, wooden beams - all well maintained. The staff were very friendly and there was a lovely raised outdoor space to enjoy the sunshine and beautiful coastal views.
Great location on the sea front though parking as you would expect is limited to the bays that fill up very quickly, there is a modest car park behind the pub and the pub itself is quite big inside, there is also an outside area on the end but I didn't go out there so I can't really comment, they serve food and from what I saw the dishes looked very appealing. Staff were friendly though I abandoned my second attempt to get a drink as despite being not overly busy I was beginning to think I'd turned invisible.Jan 2023 update..... It appears to be under new management and sadly appears to have gone down the toilet..... unlike the gents where the water was going everywhere except down the pan flooding one of the entrances. Given the state of the place I'd think twice before eating here.... I was led to believe that the kitchen would be soon be visited....... unlike myself who will not be visiting again....
Quite a stylish pub and restaurant to the East of the main seafront. Very quaint old looking exterior but modern inside. You had to book so we could only have a quick drink.
Absolutely amazing! A real recommendation for anyone cycling the oyster trail and wants a stop off for a really relaxing lunch in such a warm atmosphere. The fish and chips was probably one of the best I ever had.
Went there for a wake following a very dear friend's funeral. They put on some fantastic food for the buffet. It was her favourite pub. She went there because it was a fun place to be. The service whilst I was there was excellent.
Nice selection of beer. Right near the water, so good view.
