3 star 17 bedroom town house hotel in the heart of Kirkcudbright

Story

A 17 bedroom privately owned and managed townhouse hotel in the heart of the pretty harbour town of Kirkcudbright. Where good food, friendly service and a warm welcome await.

It’s the gentle pace and peaceful atmosphere which perhaps moved Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns to write the famous Selkirk Grace at this very hotel in 1794.

Food and service were fantastic. We had a 7yr old with us too and the waitress was lovely with her. The portion sizes were fantastic. Not too much but not too little. Would definitely recommend the chocolate brownie with salted caramel for the sweet. Most amazing sweet EVER.

Just spent 3 days at The Selkirk Arms over new year. The best place to bring in the new year. The staff are amazing and nothing is any trouble for them. The meals were amazing, even allowing an extra 3 hours in bed before breakfast on new years day. The hosts are always available and extremely helpful. This was our second year and the 240 mile drive is well worth it. Thanks again, Sue, Chris, Alistair and all the staff.

We were non-residents, and we ate our evening meal here. One of our party called in to the hotel quite early in the morning to book a table for our meal that evening. He was met with a friendly and positive reception, which included an encounter with the chef. When we arrived for our meal in the evening, the table was ready and the front of house staff were both friendly and efficient. We chose from the standard menu rather than the day's four course taster menu. All the food was good, but we agreed that the scallop starter was the star of the show. The scallops were perfectly cooked, and the remainder of the dish, which seemed deceptively simple at first, backed them up very well. Our main courses of whole Dover sole, lamb and steak pie were all good, and by the standards of the area where we usually eat out (Norfolk coast) they were very good value. We'll look for an opportunity to eat here again. (The opening scene of the Dorothy L Sayers book "Five Red Herrings" is set in the bar of the Selkirk Arms)
