Super staff and a varied menu. Mussels were really tasty, bangers and mash equally so. This pub is returning to its pomp of 30 years ago.
Went here for our wedding anniversary and found the staff very welcoming and helpful. The food was hit and miss. We had pate with onion relish and buns for starters. The taste was great but the pate was warm and soft, and the two small buns were nowhere near enough for the amount of pate. The lamb main I had was fantastic, the beef my wife had came straight off a soldier's boot. It was not medium rare as requested and had possibly been deep fried. When asked, we did mention it was tough and overcooked, but there was nothing beyond an embarrassed apology and a promise to tell the chef. When it came to the bil, the same waitress gladly accepted full payment. The deserts on offer were few and not particularly interesting. There were no sugar-free options and even sweeteners were not available. Despite all, we cannot fault the staff for their friendliness and desire to be helpful ,but unfortunately the delivery really does not match up to the prices charged, which is a shame as it is a great location and should be running like a train.
A great pub with an outstanding outdoor area. The play area and bouncy castle kept the kid occupied, staff were friendly and prices were reasonable. I was a little let down by the food; the gammon steak was actually ham, egg and chips not gammon, and the toilets really let down what is otherwise a really nice pub. However, we still thoroughly enjoyed our time here and plan to return.
Lovely place. Great food. Variety of choices. Six arrived just before last orders for food. I had phoned to book a table but couldn't give a time. They said they liked last food orders at 5.30 for sunday meals. we arrived at 5.25. The staff could not have been more obliging. They had ran out of one or two things from the menu but we were all fully satisfied with what we had.
Friendly place and great food. Dog friendly in the bar :
We went here for a Sunday roast on a whim. This was the only place with space available, it became obvious why. The tables were not clean. The food took ages to arrive. The staff's children were running in, out and around the pub screaming, fighting and causing a massive commotion the whole time we were there. The staff just allowed this to continue, and left the children screaming and fighting, even whilst we were eating. The staff were talking about other customers at the top of their voices. When the food finally arrived, the potatoes were rock solid on the outside, and plasticy on the inside, the cabbage wasn't cooked, the carrots were freezing cold and the yorkshire puddings, which were filled with an obnoxious tasting cauliflower cheese burnt to a crisp where they weren't sodden from the cheese sauce and the meat was tough as old boots. Upon going to pay the bill, we were asked how the food was, we gave our honest opinion on the food and the atmosphere. At this point the "manager" came over flailing his arms around and got right up in our faces, shouting at the top of his lungs. We took him over to show him the state of the food that we couldn't finish and his response was "that's what a yorkshire pudding looks like" and was saying he'd get the chef. Our table, 3 adults and 3 young children were surrounded by about 4-5 staff members at this point and us all feel very uncomfortable. We eventually were given a 30% or so discount after being threatened with the police when we said we would not pay full price for such awful food and disgusting behaviour by staff and their children.
Not a good experience. Will definitely never bother again. Can fully understand why the place was empty after eating here, it is also very off-putting when you walk through the door and it smells of stale 'old' oil. Food: - We shared starter of camembert which looked and tasted funny. It was in the original box and when we looked found it was over 3 weeks out of date. They apologised and said we would not be charged for it and they would give us a round of drinks. Our mains were basic, over peppered but edible, meat a bit tough but plenty of it. When the bill came, we had been charged for all drinks and apparently management had said no to the drinks on the house, wouldn't have expected them in the first place but when you are told 'sorry please let us give you a drink on the house', it is a bit much when they then renage on that apology.
I have been here a few times and have always found the food hit and miss. However, what always happens is when I ask for a wine and soda, they always charge me for a large and always the most expensive wine on ther wine list. This is not acceptable, so be specific when you order your wine otherwise you'll be charged extra!
Excellent fresh food and amazing atmosphere make me visit this, in my opinion, best pub/restaurant in area, literally everyday... Place for all families including dogs as is a place for wedding reception, b'day partys, romantic dinner or just for a Friday's night drink with a friends ...
Possibly the worst fish and chips ever served. Couldn't believe a chef would allow such food to leave the kitchen. We may have been unlucky but I won't be risking it again.
