We have just returned from having one of the best meals we have had in a long time. Friendly staff, well looked after, meals all amazing large portions could not fault in any way. Definitely recommend.
Lovely Sunday lunch and lovely desserts! Would definitely visit again.
Absolutely amazing! We went on a Sunday for the roast, the family had the roast and I had the pesto hake. I do enjoy a pub that serves other food on Sundays so you have the option. Every plate was clear! The staff were helpful and friendly and the toilets were very clean. I did notice a lot of steps so if you have trouble with steps I would call ahead to make sure you have a table to suit. wheelchair access
Lost its touch... The first time we went here a year ago for a roast dinner it was outstanding. The second time, this weekend, I was very disappointed. I had the two meat roast and the beef was overcooked and rubbery. The potatoes were hard and inedible. The pork was chewy and did not taste nice and the gravy was like water. They were very busy and we felt rushed to leave our table. I left hungry and at a cost. Staff were busy and it was difficult to grab their attention when I first began to eat. After a while I was so hungry I ate it but it was not worth the £18 price tag. The quality has definitely deteriorated.
Lovely old pub with nice Christmas menu. Only downside was staff serving who didn't seem very attentive; trying to get someone's attention seem impossible, had to go the the bar twice to ask for assistance. Not like it was very busy either. Would be happy to try again though as lovely setting.
Yesterday 18 of us had our Christmas lunch at The Old Friars. That's £1000 spent. Not only were we an hour and three quarters late being served the food was the worst meal I have ever eaten. We did get 50% back but we should have received it all back and compensation for nearly ruining our Christmas. It was a total disaster we walked out without even eating our sweet. We will never go there again.
Lovely food fantastic service well recommended
It was our families first Christmas away and we booked in for a meal. There were 6 adults and 5 children. It was not a very good start as the bar staff were taking orders from 2 people at the same time and as you guessed they charged and gave us an extra pint we didn't order. It was a saga trying to get a refund. They accommodated us well for the size of our party, and the waitress was first class. Although after about 15mins they set a table for four behind us. They were swearing like troopers and we had to tell them to curb their language, which to be fair they did to a certain extent. Meals were served in an acceptable time especially for the size of our party. However one turkey meal, the only one ordered was sent back as the turkey was as dry as anything and the rest wasn't up to much. Also sent back was a childs burger meal, which was like cardboard. It didn't spoil our experience but unsatisfactory meals should not be served in this day and age, especially traditional meals. There were no comments made to us by senior staff regarding our service and the quality of the 2 poor dishes served, which again was disappointing.
Nice place however chap next to us his chair collapsed. Slightly disappointed with the food it was ok but would have been better to have meat on plate and dishes for veggies as I had too many potatoes not enough Brussels, starter and pudding ok but we seemed to have been missed in service we had to ask for our welcome drink and waited between starter and main. Other than that people were nice place nice
Very poor food and very poor service. The waitress bought water to the table but no glasses to drink it from. I ordered the Supreme of chicken. All it was was chichen with a bome in it. No sauce. Not once did anybody ask how we were enjoying the meal. The two girls working there were only interested in chatting to the young lads at the bar. This place used to be good. We will never come here again. . . ..
