History of Sally Pussey's Inn:
Sally was a stern landlady who's real name was Sarah Purse, today Sarah's name is a colloquial rendition of her original.
The Purse family kept the pub from at least 1841 until 1885 and it was then known as The Wheatsheaf which formed part of the Bolingbroke estate which also included Lydiard House. Its address is Wick Field, but today the greatly expanded town of Wootton Bassett has crept almost up to the Sally Pussey's doorstep inviting us as a local restaurant within the area.
Arkell's bought the pub in 1906, but it wasn't until the 1970s that it was renamed in honour of its former keeper.
Extended in 1974 and completely refurbished in 2004, the pub today has a distinctly contemporary feel with a particular emphasis on serving locally sourced good quality pub food.

Went for a work dinner. The food was a good portion size. Food was fine bit would not recommend their side dishes of carrots or steamed veg as completely bland unfortunately. For dessert I was able to order the mini dessert and as a third course if you didn't want something large was convenient to have. Friendly staff.
I had a Sunday carvery, the serving was generous and the beef was lovely and tender. I wasn't mad about the vegetables, broccoli was slightly under and the cabbage was cool. Cauliflower cheese was awesome, I'm glad I asked for a bit extra. The roast potatoes were soft and a bit earthy. I probably wouldn't have a carvery again here but chatting with my family the other meals were good. The gammon steak disappeared next to me. Pudding choices were expensive but a good sized portion, my picture is the leftovers of the cheesecake. Too big for my niece to finish. I finished with a very good espresso.
Always great food here, best place in the area for dinner. Brilliant chef. All barmaids / waitresses friendly. Quick service. Bus stop outside. Good size car park.
This place is amazing. I went past it and laughed at the name mature I know then looked it up later on to find out what it was like. I saw that it did a carvery and assumed it would be expensive. Looked at the menu, it was only £10. Thought ok… there must be a catch. I bet there’s no tables if I try to book. There were loads. Still critical and a bit smug, I checked the trusty Google Maps reviews aaaaand they were great. No catch. So I booked! The food was great, especially the roast potatoes! My dad was happy when he realised they had cauliflower cheese and it was nice to be served rather than the standard Toby Carvery where you end up getting burned when you touch the hot spoon handles! You even get little pigs in blankets as standard! They do this really cool range of sundaes and you can even build your own which we did and it was lovely! It’s so much better value and no sticky tables so will definitely be coming back, honestly was great
Booked the private dining area for my Grandsons birthday, and the whole evening was fantastic. Food was superb and reasonably priced, we were served quickly, and our server Mike couldn’t do enough for us. Despite that fact that we had a party of 20 all ordering different food, Mike managed to get everything right first time and deserves a special mention. Don’t understand why other eating establishments don’t follow this one, quality food, reasonable prices, and fantastic service. We will certainly be going back, and suggesting that others do the same
I go here a lot with my mum since moving here, and there's a reason we keep going back. The food is phenomenal, especially the turkey curry and the broccoli and stilton tart. Prices are really good as well, especially for what you get. The front of house staff are always polite and friendly, even when they're clearly really busy. This is literally my favourite place to eat this side of the country, and if you're in the neighbourhood you should definitely book a table and give it a try.
The food was absolutely amazing I wanted to eat it all again when I'd finished it was that delicious. If you ever get the chance visit Sally Pusseys the staff will look after you.
Absolutely fantastic food here. I thought it was a bit pricey but then the plate turned up and the portions are decent. Decor was interesting, make time to read some bits, it will make you smile. Service was great and will definitely go back if/when in the area.
When we visited on a Thursday evening the place was alive with people sitting at every table - a hub bub of conversations which bode well. Decor was fresh with humourous touches here and there. The service was prompt and accurate. We enjoyed wine, beer and G&T followed by starters mains and coffee. All tasted good and were well presented. Portion sizes were ample and the bill was £69 which felt fair for the quality and quantity we received. Definitely recommended, we will be back.
Food was excellent but we got told that we only had the table for a hour and half and when you order from the menu and want something cooked instead of the carvery then you are waiting twenty minutes before your food comes. To expect someone to eat their food then have a sweet there is no time to sit and have a chat over coffee. Would i go again ,yes if the times where changed
