Story

The Royal Oak is situated in the picturesque village of Long Whatton, Leicestershire with close proximity to East Midlands Airport, Donington Race Circuit and the university town of Loughborough.

The gastro pub offers good quality home produced food with a strong emphasis on using fresh, locally sourced produce. The pub serves great real ales including St. Austell Tribute, Bass, Charnwood's Vixen and regular guest beers.
A carefully selected wine list and a range of other draft beers make it a great venue for meeting friends for a drink.

The guest bedrooms benefit from being in a separate building and have been recently furnished to a very high standard. Each of the spacious en-suite bedrooms are comfortable and stylish with all the facilities a discerning traveller would expect for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

After a very pleasant evening with excellent food and friendly and helpful staff, we found that our taxi could not make it through the snow to take us to back Coalville. The staff were reassuring and tried hard to obtain an alternative taxi but unfortunately the weather had become much worse during the time taken to have our meal and it was impossible to find anyone. Very fortunately for us the manager, Alex, offered to take us in his 4 wheel drive vehicle. The journey was fairly uneventful thanks to his excellent and careful driving. It was a very kind and generous gesture which we all greatly appreciated. We hope Alex had a safe journey back. We would certainly recommend the Royal Oak, their staff and in particular, Alex, who certainly exceeded the call of duty in getting us all safely home. Ross, Alan, Kath and John

Lovely stay in a beautiful area. We were a bit unsure about the stay due to some previous reviews but once we arrived we had a lovely, peaceful time! It was a very quiet time of the year and our room was clean, big and had the bath jacuzzi which was amazing! We had no noise problems from any other guests or from the pub attached. There was noise from what we think is a water boiler, which we could hear in room 5. This has been mentioned in previous reviews but we didn't find it affected our sleep or relaxation in the room. We would stay again just for the room and the breakfast was lovely too.
