Very relaxed atmosphere, very clean pub in both bar and restaurant areas. We were very impressed with both the quality and presentation of the food. Staff were very friendly, and we loved the old map of Thornbury and surrounding areas on the ceiling. Without a doubt, we shall be returning many times in the future.
Just had lunch here, good lamb shank and the wife says it is the best lasagna she has had. Forgot to mention that as one meal was on the lunchtime menu is was surprisingly cheap. Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. Very nice garden as well. The beer is in excellent condition. Also handy for public transport and the local shops.
A beautifully cosy pub that makes you feel welcome as soon as you enter. I love the cosy booth-style seating areas and it was the perfect place to stop for a girly lunch with a friend. The menu is big enough to offer plenty of choice without being overwhelming and the food was served quickly, hot, and absolutely delicious! Not only is the food tasty but it is fantastic value for money too with both myself and my friend having lunch, dessert + a drink for under £40! We love the vibe of the Royal George with its toasty real fire, snug feel, friendly staff, and delicious food. We will definitely be visiting again and would highly recommend it!
We were staying at Thornbury Castle and we wanted to try a local restaurant and they highly recommended The Royal George. We are so glad we went! The food was scrumptious. Pricing very fair. We had the tomato soup homemade goodness!, lamb shank, and chocolate cake with custard for dessert. It was so tasty, we thanked the hotel staff for the recommendation!
Had a lovely early Xmas meal with 13 friends with food chosen from their 2022 Xmas menu. All good and well prepared as we supplied our choices a few days in advance. Service was good and lots of well trained staff. Good choice of beers and soft drinks and all food and drink not at rip off prices.
My child who has very fussy taste said this was the best! He wants to eat here every day! We had a fantastic meal in a booth we requested! The staff were prompt and friendly! We had a lovely meal and highly recommend! Thanks guys!
I've been here 3 times now with my 14 month old dog who I'm trying to socialise and train to be relaxed and settled in cafes/restaurants. Staff are always friendly to the doggy, but are also respecful of the fact we're trying to train him to be calm and not expect cuddles from everyone! I've had 3 different dishes and was very satisfied with all of them. Portions are very generous twice I've taken left overs home in a doggy bag! and the staff are always friendly and courteous. Prices are very reasonable and service is quick. Would definitely recommend!
Cannot recommend this pub enough! We hired the Gin bar for a 50th birthday on Sat 4th Feb. We had a fantastic evening and the staff were amazing! We ordered the Gold Buffet for 30+ people and it was incredible. Huge shout out to the 17yr old chef who cooked everything to perfection, compliments all round! Another shout out to the bar staff who were kept on their toes all night, they couldn’t do enough for us. Everyone had a great time and it’s ‘Thanks’ to all the staff at The Royal George, a great team, nothing was too much trouble and all served with a great big smile! Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Had a lovely tasty meal: scampi, chunky chips, garden peas and a generous helping of tartare sauce. Served piping hot by friendly staff and it was very, very reasonably priced. Thank you.
More than impressed! Outstanding food cooked to perfection, I had steak and was the best steak I’ve had in a while. Great selection of food and drinks and cleanliness is superb we had a larger booking and we were dealt with efficiently with no problem, staff all superb. Thank you for an excellent experience
