Only went to the restaurant. Food was great , service great. View were stunning we had a corner table. Sunday set menu: Cured sea trout starter was delicious, and then 3 of us had the roast, 2 x beef, one had pork which was a huge portion ...all perfectly cooked. I had the hake - beautifully cooked and the accompanying veg was wonderful. Service top notch, not over attentive, but always there when needed, plus we were given time to enjoy the meal. Finished with a free glass of bubbly for my birthday! Perfect
I have had the pleasure of staying at the Avon Gorge Hotel, severally and I have to say, it is exceptional experience during each visit. The hotel itself is a stunning Victorian-era building with breathtaking views of the Avon Gorge. The location is perfect for those looking to explore the city of Bristol, as it's just a short walk from the Clifton Suspension Bridge with a view of the bridge from the bar. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed, with comfortable beds and modern amenities. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, always willing to go the extra mile to make sure my stay was enjoyable. The highlight of my stay, however, was the hotel's restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, with a menu that featured a variety of local and seasonal ingredients. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was cozy and intimate. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at the Avon Gorge Hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious stay in Bristol.
Beautiful hotel. Christmas decorations were lovely. Room very clean and comfortable. Staff very polite / attentive. Breakfast was perfect with a lovely view of the suspension bridge. Outstanding! Will be back soon.Rooms: 5/5
Our new go to hotel in the Bristol area. Ignore the old-fashioned exterior - inside is a very modern hotel with clean, spacious rooms even the "classic" rooms are quite roomy, light-filled bathrooms with overhead shower, and views on offer of the gorge and bridge. Couldn't have been more satisfied.Rooms: 5/5
Another great stay at this iconic hotel We choose a small room as not using much, and it was great. Nice deco, very clean, and excellent shower We also dined in the restaurant, and had breakfast too. The steaks at diner were perfectly cooked to our request, and the eggs benedict at breakfast were incredible
Location is amazing. Views of the suspension bridge in the outdoor area. Great options on the menu. The masaman beef lacked flavour but the fish and chips were a huge hit. Especially loved the homemade tartar sauce!Service: 3/5
Staff friendly and helpful, place designed to be dark, OK if you like that sort of false sophistication. The reason for the one rating is that when I went to check out I was told that the extras 2 rounds of drinks and a meal came to £70, without providing me with a bill. It is normal when you check out at a hotel, they print off a bill you inspect it then you pay So I asked for a bill which on inspection showed a load of service charges, at no point was I told I would have to pay a service charge for drinks in a bar… I was told they would be delivered to my table I did not request such a service. As soon as I queried the service charges they offered to remove them. It seems to me the staffs are trained to behave in this apparent underhanded manor. I am sure the service charge issue is hidden away in some small print somewhere. This hotel is not the Ritz or anything like it. These practices I would suggest are more than questionable. Will I stay at a Hotel de Vin again….no!
The best bits: Dog friendly View of Clifton Suspension Bridge The rest: Poor solution for dog owners where eating concerned. Better off walking to village where dog friendly means friendly. Parking a bit of a fight for on street - permits available but first come first served. Expensive to park in delivery yard and not as secure as you’d hope. Rooms quite tired now. Have been using this hotel for years, sadly need to find a better option until they catch up with the rest.
I stay here a lot for work, 3 to 4 times per year minimum. It's a historic building so I get that the rooms will be a little old fashioned, but they are SO dark and gloomy. The breakfast is always cooked fresh and is exactly what you'd expect from a good English breakfast. The staff are friendly albeit a little 'stiff' and this can often be misconstrued as them being rude. View of the Clifton Bridge is amazing and so nice when lit up at night.
Basil Fawlty has nothing on this lot - I booked two rooms directly with Hotel Du Vin one with a bath, view and balcony which was written on my reservation only to arrive at the hotel and no such room exists....I was then offered an upgraded room on the basis I paid more, the manager interviened and the member of staff was told to upgrade us ....the upgrade overlooked an ugly grey flat roof and was told if I turned my head to the right I would see the bridge!!! I could go on and on and on. If you still decide to stay at this hotel, the position is wonderful, the beds are comfy and view is lovely as long as you do not have to turn your head to the right, but, don't expect a smile from most of the staff or even very basic friendly or even efficient service - the bare minimum expected when staying in a "nice" hotel and if you like Bloody Mary's you will be out of luck.... Oh wow the response is quite incredible. Perhaps Head Office are not aware that because the web site is not so clear we took the time to actually speak to reservations before booking online. Your manager was well aware of this. And perhaps Head Office are not aware Bath, Balcony & View were actually written on the reservation the hotel had so perhaps it would have been normal for the hotel to have called me ahead to time to say a mistake had been made. Head office do not seem to have checked the facts - I was not a offered a free upgrade I was asked to pay for the upgrade which I refused to do - also I was not offered an extended check out I was asked to pay and I said no...Perhaps nextime a customer complains head office should check all the facts.
