We had a lovely lunch at The River Shack in the sunshine today.. it’s a lovely spot right on the water in full crabbing territory.. lovely menu which caters well for vegetarians and GF aplenty. Well worth booking very easy process online from their website as it does get busy at peak times and on sunny days. It’s a very dog-friendly place which is always appreciated with water available for all sizes! Staff were super friendly and accommodating. Car park is literally on the doorstep and on the water’s edge so ideal if you’re not wanting to walk too far. It’s £5 a day to park during the summer months. Stoke Gabriel is beautiful for a walk around and there are tons of opportunities to get on the water or delight the little ones with a good haul of crabs! We paid £25 for a couple of salads and a delicious home made orange lemonade with an Americana coffee which is not unreasonable although there are one or two pricy dishes on the menu. It’s also an excellent venue for breakfast and dinner and apparently the ice cream is delicious. There’s also an excellent cake selection although we refrained from both! Will definitely return and get something sweet next time!
Had the most amazing breakfast at the River Shack! The food was incredible, some of the best pancakes I've ever had! Very generous portion size and great value too. Would highly recommend a visit.Food: 5/5
Delightful small high end cafe on the waters edge. Food , service and drinks were great , Not your usual cafe in quality location and service. Good value considering quality of food and service . Would return if in the area .Food: 5/5
If you’re looking for a great location to while away the hour then this place ticks the boxes. The food was prepared with care and attention to please your taste buds. The service spot on indeed I was half minded to keep quiet because it was that nice. Look at the tides before you go as you can launch your kayak here easily. Paddling the River Dart is a worldly experience on a calm sunny day.
I’ve been to the river shack a few times now and it’s fast become my favourite place to go locally. Aside from the beautiful setting, The food is always fresh and amazing, the cakes are incredible and the coffee is delicious. In my experience the staff are always friendly and happy to help too. I really love the laid back vibe with dogs and kids running around, the river shack is definitely one of South Devon’s absolute gems!
Beautiful waterside cafe serving fresh local food. They also offer lots of gluten free choices & are very dog friendly. It gets really busy so recommend booking a table. Otherwise you may just have to make use of their takeaway food & drink options. Word of warning - it is very easy to get lost in the village & some lanes are extremely narrow to drive through. Once in the village centre, turn up the road with the Post Office on your right then take next left. You will eventually get to the bottom of the hill & the cafe & parking will be on the left. All day parking costs £5.
Wow.. What a beautiful place. Everything from start to finish was absolutely amazing. The poilte waitresses that greeted and lead us to our table which can I just say at the most beautiful view of the river. Very attentive services there is nothing I could fault about this place. The food was out of this world. Will and his staff well done this place is unreal and I will be back very soon
Lovely location and really friendly staff but £12.50 for two coffees and two small pieces of cake is a bit steep, particularly after having to pay £5 for the car park alongside. Menu looked interesting but pricey.
Taking a pride in the quality of the drinks served is strangely an essential requirement that many places don’t have. Not the River Shack. Lovely, engaging staff talk animatedly about the gin. There’s a whole discussion about how we’d like the Bloody Mary and there’s a good deal of knowledge about the wines and beers they serve. It’s also a perfect setting by the water and boats to sit outside and while away a sunny afternoon choosing plates from a locally sourced menu.
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING! What a beautiful little place with a great view. The breakfast service was amazing. Coffee was much better than I expected for a little Devon cafe, rivalling some of the artisan coffee shops in London. And the food was spectacular! All prepared in a timely manner and with great customer service! We will definitely be kayaking back up from Dartmouth again soon to explore more of the menu!
