I would normally give this place a five but on this occasion our table placement for dinner wasn't great. We were a couple out for a quiet dinner and even though there were other tables around the corner, they chose to sit us next to a couple with 2 very young, tired, children who were there until about 10 o'clock - running around and being quite noisy. I know that makes me sound miserable, parents and children are definitely allowed out to dine - I am a parent myself. However, the staff could have made it ok for everyone to have a pleasant evening if they had thought about it and just put us around the corner. I know we cd have asked - but I wasn't up for making the parents feel bad either. The staff are great, but a bit more thought wd have been good.
Recently went for a festive lunch. Lovely place, but deserted when we arrived and lacking any atmosphere no music , asked for table by fire, which was glowing by not exuding any heat . Meal was okay but not outstanding and despite advertised as from £19 on website we were charged £29.50 for 3 courses, which I wasn't too happy about and would have chosen a different venue as this is one of the most expensive festive lunches around. Have sent email about this but no response...so far. It is a stunning venue but I feel everything should be stunning too..maybe I just expect too much!!
Great little spot to relax and have a drink. Wonderful high ceilings and windows.
Had trout for tea, washed down by a local sharpham white wine. Staff really helpful and friendly.
Nice place. But the lunch menu was very limited. Kid-friendliness: Kids were playing on the lawn. Wheelchair accessibility: Easy in but access to the accessible toilet was difficult with my wheelchair. I could not have managed on my own. Also I only saw 1 disabled parking spot. There may have been extra else where.
Grand, Old, huge, magnificent, structurally sound and beautiful. Lovely selection of drinks too
Service is a little slow, but the food is lovely with a selection of gluten free, veggie and kids menuFood: 4/5

Expensive and expensive terrible food. The first night of our stay, we we to have a drink and something light to eat. I got one onion bhaj with some raita. My husband ordered the pork pate. We had a drink each and the bill came to nearly £40. My onion bhaj was greasy and tasteless. At breakfast, I asked for vegetarian options and was told that there was PORRIDGE! We had informed them before hand of my dietary requirements. The waitress said "if you insist I could check with the chef" I did get my veggie sausages which were inedible. It was better on the second day. We found a lovely place to eat in Totnes.
Staff stood around on their phones, reciept different to price charged on card machine, order repeated 3 times still wrong and asked to remove lemon from glass which was done by fingers, terrible service no management of staff, shame because it could be so nice, but the lack of respect and concern is hitting this bussiness hard
