Story

You will find The Porcupine in Leicester Square London within a short stroll of Leicester Square Tube, Shaftesbury Avenue and Long Acre - however you won't find another like it.

Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served, as they should be, with a generous measure of famous British hospitality.

A FASCINATING PAST

The Porcupine has proudly stood its ground since 1725. In years gone by we were a haunt of the freemasons and in 1807 became the meeting place for another group; the 'Lodge of Confidence'. In 1822 a gang of thieves came here for a celebratory drink, after burgling at the house of Lord Ashbrook. They were nabbed after asking the landlord to put their equipment behind the bar for 'safe keeping'!

ONE OF A KIND

The Porcupine is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

September 2024: Was going to see Stranger Things and stopped by for a quick bite and . Enjoyed a Beavertown IPA session to start. Beer selection was pretty good . We shared the short rib pie and a side of broccoli . The meat pie was one of the best that I have had on my vacation in London. Lots of gravy inside the pie. Beef was very tender. Crust was flaky. The pie came with potato and carrots. Broccoli was fine. For dessert, had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Dessert was excellent. Definitely would come back just for the sticky toffee pudding! Service was friendly and attentive. The lady was able to get us out quickly so we could catch our show!
The pub was awesome! The live music made the night so much fun. The place was busy, but everyone was having a great time. It was a great Friday night with good music, drinks, and a lively crowd.
Varun was an excellent server-very friendly and personable! The food was great—loved the crumble with custard, a must try! We would recommend this pub in Covent Garden!Food: 5/5
A great place to stay in central London! Cocktails are great value for money and snacks are great. Luckily, a girl bartender recommended a new cocktail based on my description, which was very delicious I forgot the name! But the picture is it. Thank her for saving my choice difficulty!Food: 5/5
Varun was a wonderful host and the food was so tasty! Great drinks as well.Food: 5/5
Very nice, still authentic given the location English pub great to pause for a pint & pie. We ordered steak & ale pie and Guinness and it was delicious. Very friendly staff, we were welcomed and cared for by lovely Krupa.Food: 5/5
Incredible service and the food very good. I recommend this restaurant for tourists, as well for locals. I was served by Varun a very kind person and professional, it was fast and efficient.Food: 5/5
When we visited the pub we thought it would be a tourist trap due to the location. Well, it was far from this. The Porcupine proved to be a great option for dining with a local flavor, downtown central London. We booked a supper for 7 on the first floor / attic. The place was nice and pleasant, the service was stellar and the food was actually very good! We tried all the pies, sausages, fish & chips, burgers, haloumi fries and almost all the beers. The food was excellent, prices were good and they gladly split the receipt for us. Finally, the windows on the 1st floor offer a nice view to Charing Cross Rd. We also had some pints in the self-service pub ground floor. Very enjoyable. Next to Leicester Square Tube Station. Highly recommended.
Our waiter Varun was fantastic. Very accommodating & so friendly. The food was delicious and cocktails were yummy. Highly recommend Food: 5/5
