About

The Poor School provides one of the UK’s most highly regarded acting courses. 25 years of graduates have enjoyed careers in theatre, film, radio, stage and comedy.

Story

The two year training begins each autumn and is scheduled largely in the evenings and at weekends.
Entrance is by audition or via a short course.
We run Four Day Courses through the year (Tuesday to Friday, daytime) and Three Week Summer Courses in July and August (Monday to Friday evening and Saturday). There is no audition; entrance is by enrolment.
As a school that has never relied on subsidy our fees are not subject to the large increases that most other vocational or academic courses are now charging.

We have five studios available to hire for auditions, rehearsals, casting, meetings etc.

Hard to recommend. I did one of the 4-day introductory courses. Many of the teachers are brilliant and truly delightful, but you barely get an hour with those. The owner of the school is pretty unpleasant and uninspiring. Can't imagine doing a longer term course here.
Very bad experience in the two-year course, you get harassed and bullied in front of everyone. The director in particular is known to be a creep, and everybody at my time questioned his sanity. You will be expelled if you miss even one class for being sick, and of course no refund. I am suing to get my money back.
Sadly closing. Teaching 2nd to none. Prepares you for the hardest aspects of acting in “the real world”. Check out The School. Same schooling with new director. Sure to keep the highest quality of training to be offered.
The worst experience you could have, the boss of the school is really a dickm humiliates people> Avoid it, if you think you have to cry to learn acting you may give a try, but it will not make you any better. And it is very very very expensive
As many have said the four day course were bleargh. Once and probably never.
It says it's still open so maybe somebody bought it and reopened it? Either way, the "poor" school is back in business!
Complete rip off. 4 day course and they didnt teach me a thing.
At the Poor School - always a new experience. Unique. An artistic hub.
