Saw a children’s show here over the weekend, and initially the found the staff at the venue to be welcoming and polite. Being a children's show, as you can imagine Children were in and out of the theatre to use the bathroom most of the play, I had to get up several times to let people in and out, no problem as I was here with my four-year-old and completely understand. The staff working the theatre do not however. I left to take my 4 year old to the bathroom and then was told I could not go back into the show through the door I came out of, despite seeing people doing it the whole play, we had to go through the backdoor on the upper levels and was told I would have to sit on the backroom to finish watching the play and could not return to my row C, next to my wife, due to health and safety. What utter rubbish. I, of course, completely ignored the staff and their silly, ignorant rules and sat next to my wife again and managed to do this without dying or breaking a leg. Staff really needs to relax on their approach to how children and families are handled at this venue. Put bit of a dampener on the evening for me having to deal with pretentious staff and them applying rules arbitrary.
A Captivating Performance by Lise Boucon Last night, I went to Lise Boucon's performance, and it was utterly superb. Boucon, a truly gifted actress and dancer, showcased her immense talent across diverse movement forms, leaving the audience in awe. The creative genius behind the production, serving as both director and producer, ensured every aspect of the show was polished to perfection. The theatre came alive as 200 spectators were held in rapt silence throughout the entire performance. The highlight of the evening was Lise Boucon's live artistic solo piece, "The Chair." This mesmerising act seamlessly wove dance, laughter, and intricate movements, all centered around the eponymous object. Lise's ability to convey a range of emotions through her movements was truly captivating, and her skillful execution left the audience spellbound. The choreography was a masterful display of creativity, showcasing Lise's versatility and command over a captivating blend of ballet, contemporary dance, and even a touch of acrobatics. The incorporation of complex movements within and around the chair added an extra layer of sophistication to the performance, underlining Lise's exceptional artistry. The atmosphere in the theatre was electric, and the applause that followed the conclusion of "The Chair" was a testament to the sheer brilliance of Lise Boucon's talent. It was evident that every moment on stage was thoughtfully crafted, resulting in an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance. I must also acknowledge the collaborative effort with Terry, which added another dimension to the performance. His contribution deserves special mention, and it was evident that their partnership played a significant role in the success of this extraordinary theatrical experience. Bravo to Lise, Terry, and the entire collaborative effort behind this true masterpiece! 02/02/2024 C Smyth.
Seen a fantastic performance of the National dance company Wales in this theatre.
25 years ago this cafe was absolutely fabulous. Now there are few dishes to choose from and the food is stale , luke warm at best and overpriced! A terrible turnaround for the very worst.
Great theatre!!! The management is commendable. There are some of the best shows in London at this theatre. You can’t get it wrong. Around this theatre are great restaurants for after show food and drinks. I had a great time watching a late night dance show by a trio. It was a demonstrative dance. There are also a variety of parking options including street parking within a reasonable distance.
Watched Dances Like a Bomb with Harry
Great small venue! Perfect view of the stage from any seat. Reasonable prices. I loved performances from Korean Dance Festival.
The Place is an incredible place to learn contemporary dance. With a great range of classes at all levels and styles. The team running The Place care a great deal about putting on programmes of activity that reflect the needs of their participants, recruiting the best teachers. Classes are always enjoyable and uplifting, while still being technically challenging. I have a huge amount of time for The Place and I'd absolutely recommend it for anyone looking for contemporary dance classes.
I have been The Place in total of 3 times, I like it. Its canteen is very reasonable and comfortable. Very close from Euston station. It is a bit difficult to find if you come from Kings Cross, but it is just next to Premier Inn of Duke Street behind a big church you can see from just outside Euston station. The theatre is a good size, easy to see from front row to middle row. I never sat at the back so I am not sure but I imagine it would be also good view. The theatre is a pit style so the stage is lowest and seats are going up gradually. Only thing I do not like about the location is that Euston Road is so heavy traffic all the time so it is frustrating to cross the road. Need to cross about 4 traffic lights to get the place from the station. And some traffic lights do not change for long time even there is not much traffic. With a child , it gets me nervous each time. They do an open day around the end of July every year, we went only once but that was totally inspiring and fun. My daughter learned about Maddy Ziggler from that day. We also saw a beatiful dance + theatre , a story about “a fish is getting so big to eat the world”. That was very good. We should have more shows like that for kids something not a Christmas panto, not just a comedy but inspiring / beautiful, not too expensive and most importantly not too long!!! But many workshops looked like mostly for under 6, so my daughter might be a bit too old now. I went to see Zoonation Academy's Christmas show the other day here and it was excellent I did not have any relatives or somebody I know in the show. Highly recommend it !
I have been taking adult evening class weekly at the place for the last two years. Compared to other venues in London, this is by far the best place for beginners to take on the challenge of ballet and contemporary dancing. Incredible teaching staff and wonderful live music, piano or drum accompanying each class, a perfect place to enjoy and challenge oneself! Highly recommended!
