The Pilchard
"Quenching the Island’s thirst for over 700 years, The Pilchard Inn first served the fishermen who lived on the Island and mainland shores, then the smugglers and wreckers who lured ships onto the Western rocks and now Hotel guests and the public. It is a very small Inn where guests enjoy sitting in front of a roaring fire and watch the tides “meet” and “part”."

The Pilchard Inn is just amazing a truly splendid place, the staff are amazing and the service is perfect. They were very kind and attentive to my family, they were very accommodating to both of my terrorist children and my dangerous wife and seemed to understand the suffering of an innocent man... This is a georgous place and perfect for a meal and few drinks. Definitely the best thing about Burgh Island is the Pilchard Inn and the fabulous staff, a place I would recommend to everyone and will definitely be returning too.
The best fish and chips I have ever had!! We went in and ordered, it was busy as lunch rush so expected but the lady behind the bar was friendly. We sat outside so were giving a disk to collect our order when it flashed ready. Our disk didn't work but the waiter came and found us promptly with our food. The fish and chips were seasoned perfectly and a nice size portion. I would recommend this quirky pub with amazing fish and chips to anyone in the area. The fish and chips were about £14 per portion but the prices you expect to pay for an island and definitely worth every penny!
Very old inn dating back to 1332, with a fascinating history of fishermen and smuggling. Plenty of interesting features. Good beer and friendly staff. Small inside but adequate seating outside. Beware of getting cut off by the tide, and of plastic glasses when drinking outside.
Wonderful location and position. One of the oldest pub's in England. Sandwich like one you would get from Greggs. Good service and decent choice of drinks in historical building.Great opportunity let down by food, sandwich in a paper bag.
What a lovely pub, you can walk over the sand bar about two hours before or after high water, or get the tractor if you really need a drink. Remember they only take cards, no cash!
Visiting Burg Island and having a drink at the Pilchard Inn is a must for anybody visiting South Devon. The beach's on the opposite shore are great for all, including dogs, time your visit and walk over too the Pilchard Inn and sit in a pub that was first used at the time of Edward 3rd and a year before the 100 year war between England and France began, fantastic.
Don’t recall feeling quite so ‘ripped off’ for a long time. Badly cooked and presented food, the price for what was there felt absolutely extortionate and then when I asked the manager if we had been charged correctly over £60!!?? I was met with a ‘tough, take it or leave it’ type attitude. It also wasn’t until we left we realised we’d been charged a deposit on the plastic cups… something not made apparent at all!! Won’t be stopping there again.
Great views from the beer garden. Nice friendly staff and a great place to have a pint. Drinks slightly on the expensive side
Amazing location but very expensive!!! One pint of cider, small wine and 4 bags of crisps £22. £4 back for returning glasses which you then have to queue for! Miserable staff.
What a gem of a place, a step back in time, sitting on the rocky edge of Burgh Island. Service is amazing, staff friendly, nice and cosy on a winters day. Beware the in coming tide, or you cannot get back to the mainland.
