Super friendly pub at the heart of the village! Gorgeous outside seating areas, plenty of cute little hideaways and such a welcoming atmosphere. 10/10 service and food. Really couldn't recommend highly enough. Family and pet friendly.
It was going through a revamp so I wasn't able to see it in its full glory and taste any food but the pub is much to my liking. I am going to be visiting again as my best friend lives in the village and we may watch a few sport matches which it has on show with the large screens. A nice little looking pub with the usually salts of the earth having a few jars. Pubs are a main stay of UK culture and often its where men are able to meet and catchup and solve the worlds problems and their own. This is one of them and is an essential for the villages community. I hope it remains open in these tough times.
A traditional English country pub, great food, reasonably priced, real ale, great atmosphere, friendly family staff....
Nice friendly pub in the middle of the village. Ideal place to stop off for a thirst quenching pint.
Not welcoming at all. Felt every customer was an effort to serve. Thankfully the very few regulars that were there, were more friendly.
I will admit to a little bias as this is my local but the Volunteer Inn is as good as it's possible to be in the current environment. Good, well kept ales, very good Guinness and a selection of ciders but it is the food that deserves special mention. The pub built up a good reputation during lock down through its takeaway menu and this has been enhanced since reopening. Fish and chips, steaks and Sunday roasts are all freshly prepared but it is the pies, that perhaps take pride of place. Homemade proper pies not a bit of stew with a bit of pastry on top. The steak and kidney, beef and ale and a variety of chicken pies are all highly recommended.
After a 6 hour walk, and an hour to wait for the bus back home, it was heaven, to sit amongst the display of blooms in the Beer Garden, at the rear of the pub, away from the traffic. with a cool lager, it was freedom after all the lock down restrictions.. Good table spacing, and shade. 26 degrees in the sun .better than being abroad. Food available, maybe next time. welcome greeting, good price, well done to the landlord. TOP AWARD. regards bongobrian .
Fantastic village pub with a great sense of community!
It is so lovely to be able to go into a pub for the first time in so long that I can't pretend to give a neutral, unbiased review. The pub was lovely, the staff were lovely, the locals were lovely and the beer was lovely. There was a large beer garden with plenty of space and a lovely evening was had by all!
I ordered a take away curry from the Volunteer Pub my local watering hole, during the lock down, It was delivered piping hot together with a bottle of beer. I must say it was one of the best curry's I have ever had, I will certainly have another one. Great value for money, Thank you. Reg.
