Delicious food, attentive staff and a pleasure to visit on a Sunday afternoon. Booking ahead advised for weekends. The desserts were the best I've had in a long while!
We went for Mother's Day and waited over 2h for the food and over 40 min for the drinks. The burgers were awfully served, some with croquettes, others without, my sister ordered steak and a salad, they brought the salad but not the steak. At one point family asked for water and I had to stand up to get water myself after asking 3 members of staff. After many issues, I went to speak to the manager which told me he would go and see us but never bothered. The whole experience was really bad!!!! Awful!!!!
Great Sunday roast and burger options, chilled atmosphere with great local beers from Gypsy Hill Brewery my favourite. Very friendly staff and great for the family for a comfortable Sunday afternoon or any time of the week!
Had a really nice Sunday dinner here, in a lovely sheltered outdoor space. The food was really good had the lamb roast, only niggle were the veggies, everything else spot on. Great choice of desserts too and friendly service.
Horrendous experience today at the Paxton, which came highly recommended. We had a reservation for 10+ people, 4 families and kids. Table was nice, place was quiet. We were informed that the kitchen was not open yet 1pm and that we would have to wait 30minutes to order lunch which was odd but acceptable. So we ordered drinks off their menu. 3 of those were not being served anymore, and one that they did was flat. They were happy to change that and offer us alternatives. So far so good. The food menu was new and now only offered limited Sunday roast options. We ordered each our own. Noteworthy that there was no child menu, so one of the parents went out to the local chippy to find food for their son. Which is also quite unacceptable, considering this is a family pub. After ca. 1h30m 4 out of 10 orders arrived, most of which were undercooked. Another hour later - not a single member of staff had approached us about any of this. We started asking questions and spoke to the manager. Apparently they had outsourced their Sunday kitchen for the first time, by 3pm the chef had yet to arrive and amateurs or alternative help was ‘trying’ to prepare the orders. We were then informed that no further food will be served. We decided to leave and were still asked to pay for drinks. Frankly an appalling experience. Will never visit again.
Great take over and had a wonderful night with some excellent beers and street food. Love what they've done to the garden at the back, very cosy.
Nice pub with a good outdoor space. The inside lacked a bit of atmosphere and the night we went were showing football. Service was good and very friendly
Potentially, this is a great place for non-vegetarians. First the good: The risotto balls were good. They had the rustic flavour of home made tomato sauce, with a hint of Italian herbs. Served warm, three such fried balls arrived in one portion. They reminded me a lot of spaghetti balls I ate in Italy. The Sunday Pot Roast however, was a big let down. The very limited portion of greens - finely chopped broccoli and cabbage - were not seasoned. The bulk of the meal was large roasted potatoes. The 'nut' part of the nut roast was limited to a garnish on a small piece of bread. I hope to visit the restaurant again, not on a Sunday, to check out more of the kitchen's regular food. At the moment however, my recommendation to vegetarians would be to go only with very good company.
This place was the worst bar/restaurant I have ever attended, the prices were unjust and the service was abysmal. Upon entering, we were given sticky menu’s which were stained with food & drink and had only highlighted half of what was said to be available on their website. Once we had ordered, our food felt as though it took forever to arrive. This was due to us receiving a meal which was immediately retracted due to it being delivered to the incorrect table. Once our food finally arrived cold my son refused to eat his burger after the meat was served rare when asking for well done. When filing a complaint we received bad attitude and rudeness from multiple members of staff and were not issued a replacement. On top of this, my children could not order drinks due to there being no non alcoholic beverages on their menu and I chose not to opt for one due to their colossal prices. The toilets were also very badly kept, with blocked sinks in the ladies, and hand dryers not functioning as they should. An all round terrible dining experience; I will definitely not be returning
Great outdoor area with full cover and some heaters. Good atmosphere. It was pretty crowded outside but that'll probably die down when the inside is open. Great food options pizza, vegan and nice beer selection about 4 pale ales on tap
