The Pantiles. A nice display of stores, big and small names, family businesses, clean area and quiet. I went there when a Market happened. Not impressed. It is a posh area and probably that's why the most important ingredient for a successful street market was missing: STREET FOOD! I don't know if it was banned because of the smells and potentially smoke, but my feeling is that this was the case. However, some stalls were selling cookies and cakes... Cookies and cakes!! Not my cup of tea on a street market... I found a very nice stall with Japanese food, the tofu skewers were amazing! Actually, this was the only stall selling hot food. Poor, poor market. Would I go back? No. But for sure I'll miss the Japanese food stall...

Very quaint little area to visit for an afternoon stroll. Lots of variation in the shops but I suspect most visitors browse rather than purchase. Great selection of places to eat or just have a drink and watch the world go by as most have plenty of outdoor seating. I imagine it gets really busy in the summer so get there early in the height of season! Market is there 1st and 3rd weekend of the month and this definitely adds to the charm.

Go to Chocolati when it's cold great little place for hot chocolate or lunch. Pantiles is Not so good when its cold and icy. Lovely in spring and summer when all the outdoor cafes come into their own. Outdoor markets as well. Feels quite continental in the summer.

The pantiles is always worth the stroll to the bottom of Tunbridge Wells. If you want to avoid the homogeneous shopping of royal Victoria place. On a nice day the pantiles are stunning with cafés and bars with outside seating. The bandstand is still in regular use with jazz nights a local favourite. The shops are much more boutique with prices to match. Definitely the nicer end of Tunbridge Wells

Pretty. Clean. Good food and entertainment. Be sure to come on a market day, I'm not sure which ones are market days but I know Saturdays is one of them. Recommendations.
