Let me let you into a secret. The pack horse is not what you think. They lie to you about the rooms, the staff are unprofessional and it’s never quiet. The place is right next to a club that plays loud music that can be heard until 2-3am. There’s a member of staff that’s very rude at night that walks around and bangs on doors. The staff during the day are liars and never get anything done. I’ve had my heater and lights not working for months now and when I brought this up to them they lied and said my light was not a light and that the microwave was never working when I used it every day. Don’t trust the people at the Pack Horse a bunch of lying people that sit in the chairs all day doing nothing they pick and choose who they want to help. My parents have complained numerous times. If you are international avoid this place as they are very racist and picky on who they want to help.
Highly recommend The Pack Horse, I can't understand the negative reviews I'm seeing here as I've stayed at The Pack Horse now for 2 years and have just booked my 3rd year and I've never had any issues. The staff are very friendly and any maintenance requests are carried out in a timely manner. To top it all off, I had personally applied at many student accommodations including the official halls of the University and none of them would accept my guarantor coming from a fairly poor household. The nice staff running The Pack Horse took a chance on me and accepted my guarantor, I wouldn't be studying for my degree right now without them. Give the place a try, you won't be disappointed.
The flat is not what I expected at all. The bed and wardrobe are broken. Bed broke under me just at night, it's ridiculous. When I asked master to repair he didn't come, he ignored me. The flat was not clean and I was forced to clean it by myself after previous person. First floor is noisy. The TV is not big like on the photo.
I've only been here less than 3 weeks and already the fire alarm has gone off 10+ times. I understand that this can happen because residents sometimes aren't careful with cooking food but I believe the main cause is due to the kitchens being poorly designed and not having any windows to allow ventilation while cooking. There is also no staff working after 5pm or so they say but whenever I go to the reception there is never anyone there so when the fire alarm does go off after 5pm it takes a while for a member of staff to come turn it off which is highly inconvenient as the alarm is deafeningly loud. The arrangement of the rooms is also bizarre as the communal kitchens aren't on the same floor as the residents in it and the residents sharing the kitchen are also not on the same floor so it is very difficult to make friends with anyone. The only redeeming feature of The Pack Horse is that I really like my dorm room and it's contents the bed, shower, etc.. and the fact that it is only £80 a week to live here for an ensuite room, but it cannot go unsaid about my previous mentions and the cons definetely outweigh the pros.
Doesn't even deserve one star I've lived in Bolton for 3 years and it is the worst accomodation I've had by far Always having people coming in your room without permission or even warning. They just show up, even if you're not in there Didnt have a working toilet for the first 3 months of living here, so constantly had unqualified maintenance guys unblocking it every other day, only reason it got fixed is cause they got an actual plumber to sort it after they did so much damage cause they have no clue what they're doing Washing machines and dryers are ALWAYS broken The back door that leads to the bins is broken, so if you dont close it from the inside it just doesn't lock and homeless people just wander in and try and get in people's rooms.. and the residents are the ones to blame for that part apparently I dont think I know anyone that lives in this building that hasn't suffered some form of isolation/depression after moving in here It's awful, never move in, you'll regret it so much. Go to Orlando Orlando village or the cube cause the packhorse is just cold and damp. I didnt think it was possible to be more miserable while living in Bolton but packhorse proved me wrong
Beware of these dodgy landlords who take generic pictures close up of Mark's on the wall/surfaces and your door number! Then try charging tenants back saying it was there after you've left.
Terrible service staff always going into room without permission. Corridors always stink! Alarm going off at daft hours for 8-10 minutes none stop!
Was very loud, false fire alarm woke me at 6.30 am and continued to go off intermittently for the remainder of my stay.
Don't park outside, the local council will ticket you even if you are unloading or loading.
the net of the pack horse is very bad. It is too slow to open a web page. If you live in this house, you will live without the net.
