Visited with two friends for Sunday lunch only to be told at 2.15pm that they only had beef left & that the meal would be pre plated. Ordered the meals & told that there was a half hour wait, not a problem, plenty of time to catch up with our friends & have a drink. Found the price of their wines expensive; £4.50 x £5 a glass Meal arrived on small plates and looked like children's portions, each meal only had 4 or 5 small pieces of diced potato, which 'put together' would have made less that two small potatoes, Overall very poor considering £8.95 price. Vegetables came in separate dish minus any serving spoons and not enough for four persons. Then at 4.15pm, they began turning customers away saying that they were closing, even for drinks only customers; albeit the signage outside stated they were open until 6pm. Having now read previous reviews it appears the meat shortage is a regular thing. Not the place for Sunday lunch. We'll be returning to the Wheat-Sheaf up the road.
Visited 29/3/2016. We thought that we would give this newly opened pub a try again as we used to use it often in the past. Oh dear! We waited nearly an hour for the food which was very poor when it finally came. The "steak pie" was mainly pastry, gravy and fat, with a very small amount of gristly beef. The chips were soggy, the carrots and the broccoli were cold. The food was served on stone cold plates. When we mentioned to the manager that we were disappointed he shouted at us and almost chased us out of the pub. An experience we will not be rushing to repeat!
Fantastic service. Food was well priced and quality. Friendly helpful staff we went with two young children and were looked after really well. Decent pint as well which isnt always guaranteed. Dog friendly going by the four well behaved dogs enjoying the sunshine on the patio. Will visit again
The four of us have just been to The Old Mitre and what a treat it was. Fantastic food and welcoming friendly staff. We felt immediately relaxed. Tucked into a warm atmosphere we were soon chatting away all cares in the world. Will be recommending this place to everyone.
Thanks Maz for the meal tonight. Good food shame no fish available for fish and chips. Quick friendly service and food nice and hot. Bit surprised that a glass of pop was £2.65 off the tap and half was ice !!!! when a pint of beer was only £2.95
The food was average, asked for a Irish coffee it was made in a normal coffee cup And it was expensive they charged for the coffee and Jameson whiskey separately which no other restaurants do that I think the service could have been better.
We had a carvery today and oh my god !! The worst we have ever had !! £8.99 for a cold dinner and the chef ran out of meat and scattered the chicken around to make it look like there was more on the plate . 0/10 rating but they did put my dinner in the microwave with the mint sauce and cranberry on lol poor very poor !!
Fantastic food, staff couldn't be more welcoming and fast service. Drinks are a little expensive however most places seem to do this.
Fabulous wedding lunch with the bride and groom, really friendly and attentive staff and excellent food that was to die for! Well worth a visit if you are passing,.... Great value for money too
The food, first class. The ale , top notch. Would highly recommend a visit
