Came across this lovely jewel of a pub on a day out in the area and actually contemplated returning the following day it was so good. The pub is situated in Cranbourne between Windsor and Ascot and has a large car park. It has low beamed ceilings and open fireplaces which on the day of our visit were roaring invitingly. The service was impeccable from start to finish, drinks ordered and delivered immediately. The staff were attentive and available despite the pub being reassuringly busy as we placed our order. The menu is extensive with plenty for all tastes. I can honestly say the food was beyond good and far better than I have had at some higher end restaurants in the area. My wife accidentally spilled her drink at one point and the team jumped in to deal with it discreetly and replaced the drink free of charge. The cost for 2 courses plus drinks and coffee for 2 people was £70 in a warm comforting environment, served by well trained attentive staff was money well spent and in a period of gloomy economic outlook an investment in total pleasure. There was even a fantastic playlist of music at perfect volume as to be audible but not overbearing. The team at the old Hatchet deserve to be congratulated for impressive hospitality, top class unpretentious cuisine in a clean welcoming , comforting environment. Faultless! We will be back and will be bringing family and friends. This place should not be a secret!
Changed hands recently and some good improvements. Firstly, it's open every day, was always difficult to know when it would be open so ended up not going. Friendly welcome and good service for lunch. Food was good, tasted fresh and served in good time. Had the goats cheese thingies with beetroot and the hummus to start, both we couldn't fault. Main course was couple of pies and a vegan burger. Again, fresh and tasty with some really nice chips. Would like to see a more interesting menu and more vegan options, but we had a great lunch and I'm sure we'll be back.
An excellent experience overall. On our arrival we were welcomed and shown to our seats. We had a disabled person in the party and staff couldn't have been more helpful. The Sunday lunch menu was comprehensive and from the number of people there very popular. Because of the number of people service was occasionally slower than normal but the food Sunday roasts when it arrived was excellent. Would i return. Most certainly. Thanks everyone for a pleasent lunch!!
I like the Old Hatchet. It's one of the few pubs left in the Ascot area that hasn't succumbed to the insidious tide of redevelopment. So many wonderful little pubs have been lost this way in recent years, but the Hatchet has stood firm. Cozy, inviting old school pub with lots of wood beams to crack your head on! Good selection of beers, wines and spirits for all tastes. The food is very much up to scratch too! There is a pleasant outdoor area with is tastefully undercover for the warmer periods of the year, and decent sized carpark to the rear should you be driving. The staff are pleasant and welcoming which adds to attraction of this establishment. Go find out for yourself. Definitely worth a visit.
Our first visit to the Old Hatchet and it was just what we wanted - generous food portions and attentive service. The pub has several different areas which we liked and of course the building has lots of character, a proper pub! We took our dog, too, who was made very welcome. Highly recommend.
Lovely old pub, excellent food and service. Very pleasant staff, had a great time. Many thanks. Grandson said its was the best burger he had had and he's American
Lovely Sunday roast. Service was fast and attentive. Recommended.
We had a party of nine for Christmas lunch. What a fantastic day, we were given a very friendly welcome and the service was impeccable. The food was amazing. I would highly recommend a visit.
