What a superb attraction. So much to see. No charge although parking was £4 for the day. However that seemed fair and left us some of our daily budget for the gift and craft shops. I took 2 teenagers 16 and 15 who loved it. The cafe had supper family food clearly made with love as it had good ingredients prepared in-house by someone who takes pride in cooking good food with a passion. Food prices were fair and not the usual ripoff so frequent in many tourist destinations these days. The children and I as result happily had a full meal each for a little over £5 each. The shop staff and presenters were very professional and made excellent impressions. Although the floors and ground can be uneven it has been made safe and accessible, I would think a wheelchair user would be able to access everything. There was even a small quality modern lift to make the upper level is accessible for everyone regardless of age or mobility challenges. Very pleased to give The National Slate Museum my full recommendation.

This place is AMAZING! I was skeptical, but got dragged here by my family, and really enjoyed it. There is a ton to see, and the 50' water wheel is very impressive. My kids enjoyed it as well. It was a great lesson for them on early phases of the industrial revolution.

The largest working water wheel in the UK (they claim). Impressive. It even seems to drive a line shaft that connects to several belt driven machines. Those machines don't work though, but they are also quite impressive in their own right. Definitely worth a visit.

I wasn't expecting too much when I went but I was wrong. I really enjoyed it. The huge water wheel is impressive. The recreation of workers homes over the years and the foundry were very interesting. The skill of splitting slate was demonstrated. Well worth visiting.

Much toil to cover the country's roofs. This place reminded me of how hard people toiled to earn a living in such harsh conditions. We should all see it to understand how much easier life is now. However, we can also see from some of the films that they didn't care much about the environment then. Things were simply cut, chopped, blown up and waste products dumped in lakes etc. There is quite a bit of parking available--not free. Entrance is free. The site is only about 500 metres from the Snowdonia Mountain Railway and 950 metres from the Electric Mountain Visitor Centre. If you plan your trip carefully, all three sites could be covered in one hit.
