The award winning Monastery is a unique venue, famous for its stunning architecture. Perfect for events from dinners to weddings. Owned by a charitable trust.

Story

Designed by acclaimed architect EW Pugin for the Franciscan Order, the Church and Friary were the hub of the local community until the 1970s when housing clearances removed much of the congregation. Abandoned by the Friars in 1989 the buildings became derelict, prey to thieves and vandals, until a campaign was started to try and save them. The Monastery is now owned and operated by the Charitable Trust that raised over £.5m to restore the buildings and return them to their rightful place at the heart of the local and wider communities.

A great music venue in the old monastery. Beautiful architecture and all nicely laid out. Naturally the sound of any gig there has quite an echo. The seats are incredibly uncomfortable though, after an hour you really need to get up. Also the bar only serves bottled beers, a couple of options on draught would be better.

What can I say? The team at this place is next level, gold standard and have no problems in going above and beyond. My newly wed husband and I got married on a weekend in August and it couldn’t have gone smoother. Sure there were a few glitches, but it was an Indian marriage and they have a different time scale to the western world! Huge shout out to Kate and Neil who helped organise and run the show. Kate has been involved right from the very start and she has been so patient with us and we appreciate every last little thing she’s done for us. Our family and friends were incredibly impressed with the venue and how smooth the day went - and it’s all a nod to the wonderful staff who were there on the day. We couldn’t have picked a better team to share our day with. Thankyou to The Monastery and we hope to see you again!

Fantastic night watching Queen by Candlelight... The monastery is a beautiful venue, with plenty of secure parking, and adequate facilities in terms of refreshments, welfare and seating... The concert was very well organised, very helpful and friendly staff to get you inside and to your seats, and the atmosphere was great great with people of all ages enjoying th music... Will certainly be looking towards attending more concerts at this venue again in the future...
Hippos Remixed. Very nice venue for a party, and what a party. The building is beautiful and the staff were very nice. Having recently married at Gorton Monastery, We would both like to say a huge thank you to Chloe and all the staff at Gorton Monastery for making our wedding day perfect in every way possible, It was everything we imagined it to be and much more from start to finish. All our guests have commented on how amazing the day was and were blown away by the Monastery's beauty, in their own words "the best wedding ever". We had guests travel from London, Cumbria and Liverpool who all commented on how beautiful the Monastery is, our photographers were also excited to be photographing at the Monastery and were blown away by the buildings beauty which we have defiantly managed capture within our photos. The day was well organised and all the staff were very welcoming and professional throughout. Once again we would like to pass on our thanks to Chloe and the wider team for making our day so special. We had our wedding at The Monastery in November 2023 and it was sensational. The team there are kindly, reassuring and professional. From start to finish the wedding planner Chloe was organised, helpful and reassuring - I enjoyed every moment of planning the wedding with her. She was there with me on the day and helped create a relaxing morning with zero worries. The operations team made the day run smoothly and the transition from ceremony to drinks/photos and then into the meal was seamless. The food was top tier, my guests could not compliment it enough and the catering team and staff were efficient and attentive. Overall, it really was a perfect day
