Great food and very fair prices. Bit of a gem in Hitchin as many of the town centre restaurants and pubs don’t offer such a good menu. Polite and friendly staff which adds to a nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back when we visit again
We had a lovely roast dinner there today. Friendly staff, they were lovely and entertained my 11 month old. Good baby change facilities. Good roast dinner, nice size portions and reasonably priced. Thank you!
Returned after a year or so. The interior and exterior are very nice. We sat outside this time. Mixed impressions from all 3 of us. When we order staff got a bit stressed with my indecisive friend. Drinks took some time to arrive and sent to a wrong table. My "light" version of the steak was super light , and the baked potato not too tasty. My friends orders were spot on- good size portions. Staff at the bar very friendly and helpful. Bathroom need deep cleaning or redecorating.
Lovely place, loved the outside sitting with its decorations from the old mill. Went last 3rd September afternoon for a well deserved pint with my work colleagues. Not giving 5 stars as while the waiter was serving our beers he dropped beer on the table and instead of topping it up he asked me if I would be alright. Remember to keep excellent customers experience!
Food was lovely as always, gorgeous establishment. Little bit of a wait for the food but worth it, and understandable with how popular the pub is. Would highly recommend.
Service here on the 16th Dec 22 was fab! It was super busy, we table of 6 were a little worried that would affect the service however they kept the drinks flowing. We ordered from the festive menu, which was lovely. We also came for the festive menu on the 7th Dec 22 table of 7 loved it so much we rebooked for the 16th. We will deffo be back. Cocktails are lush Here.
Been to the mill stream many times. Way before it become what it is now. Always had a great experience Although the visit today wasn’t a great experience at all. The food was brilliant couldn’t fault it but the service was awful. When I walked in there were a few staff standing around, this isn’t a problem especially so close to when the pub opened. This doesn’t helped with what then happened. We had finished our meals for at least 15 minutes before anyone came over to ask if we were done. Even though other tables around us had just come on and you could see we had finished with our mains. When we were eventually seen too, we were asked if we wanted deserts. We said yes please. That they would come back with the menus and take away our plates. To put it in perspective they took away a few plates and obviously it was a lot to take them all. Make sense. 25 minutes late no one had come back. I got up and walked to the front to pay for the meal. I was really annoyed as on waking back there were still staff standing around. Admittedly when I asked about experience I said it was s***. I was so annoyed. Again I could have used a different term but I’ve never know this pub to be bad. Although I do appreciate the job the chefs had done. The staff member tried to take me to one side when I then said I wanted to cancel a party we had booked in January for 16 people. To me this was the only time the ears pricked up. Would I go again no way. Shame really but wouldn’t go back.
I edited my review down a star, let me explain! In summer we love hanging out here in the garden, the food is amazing especially the Sunday roasts and the staff are lovely, really enjoyed the live music in the garden that happened sometimes... But it's winter at the moment and dogs aren't allowed inside. It would be great if we could bring the dog inside, just into one part of the bar to shelter from the cold and rain... we would be there all the time!
Exactly what you want in a pub. Cozy atmosphere. Great service. One of the best Sunday roasts to be had in Hitchin. Honestly will have dreams about this roast. Good selection of draughts from a couple of local breweries, all of which can be enjoyed with river views.
We went here for a Sunday lunch after watching a theatre show in Hitchin and was not disappointed. The meals were great value and we were surprised at how nice they were. There were 6 of us and we all had the Sunday lunch. The meat was tender and the vegetables were cooked well. The service was fast considering how busy the pub was. If I am back in the area I would return.
