Lovely pub, around the corner from where we were staying in the centre; we visited twice. Lots of real ale choices for the husband & a decent cider for me although I still don't know why us cider drinkers are only ever offered one choice!. On our first visit, we sat in the corner opposite the end of the bar. It was a bit chilly as I can only assume that a staff door was open somewhere. Once free, we moved to the seats by the fire not properly lit, which was a bit better but still chilly as next to the main door. We sat by the fire again on our 2nd Visit, but the fire was lit, so it was a bit warmer. Friendly staff & a pleasant atmosphere. We tried the majority of the pubs in Ulverston; some we walked straight back out of, and others we just had one drink. We should have just stayed in The Mill!
I had the Christmas menu and I was really impressed with the turkey dinner, the portion appeared small but it tasted delightful and was a perfect portion for me. Great service and lovely cozy pub atmosphere. My only complaint would be the salmon starter, beautifully presented but it lacked some taste and the bread was rather thin for me
The food from here is well priced for what you're getting. I had the beef shin and ale pie and my girlfriend had the burger. Both meals were absolutely outstanding, the ingredients were clearly very high quality and cooked with attention to detail. The bar staff and waitress were lovely aswell. The pub has a very cosy and warm atmosphere and the outside terrace and upstairs seating area are a very nice touch and make the pub stand out. The beers on tap were also fantastic, many locally sourced ales and beers you would struggle to find anywhere else. Overall a superb experience.
Great pub with a lovely terrace upstairs , we all had the roast dinner which was nice but unfortunately all 3 of them were cold . Plenty of food on the plate though and would go again
We visited the Mill, it is a nice place friendly staff a very busy restaurant so we did have to wait over an hour for a table. The food arrived within 40 minutes, the food was presented well, I had the steak and ale pie which I had high expectations for especially as it looked lovely. It was very rich and salty which I did not enjoy, I would have preferred more veg to what was given and the extra gravy was very runny. Unfortunately the table did not finish their meals, the toilets were also quite wet with water or urine I was not sure, this could be due to larger groups of Saturday night drinkers from the bar. Overall the Mill has lots of character and history with very polite and friendly staff, the food is ok and worth trying.
