I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Elstree Manor Hotel. The poor service began right at the check-in process when my card was blocked, and I was not given any assistance. When I finally got access to my room, I found a double bed instead of the king-sized bed that I had requested during the booking process. The room was also cold and uncomfortable. Card to the room was not working every time I came back and needed go back to reception to make it work - do this in advance before going to the room. When I contacted reception to request help, they were completely unresponsive and did not seem to care about providing good customer service. The situation with breakfast was also frustrating. I arrived at the restaurant at the scheduled time, but the food was not ready. I was informed that it would take a few more minutes, but after waiting for nine minutes, I was told that I could not have breakfast because I was late. This was incredibly disappointing and added to the negative experience I had already had. Overall, my stay at Elstree Manor Hotel was extremely unsatisfactory, and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The lack of attention to guest needs and poor customer service made for an unpleasant stay.
We only visited for lunch so can't comment on the hotel rooms. The restaurant was cold and seats by the original single glazed windows were freezing. Afternoon tea seems to be the big thing as the main meal menu was average but not great. Staff were pleasant not not particularly helpful or well informed. We would have been happy to stay and eaten in the evening too, but just got presented with the same menu, with no opportunity for variation. Car parking is generous, but there were no accessible facilities with toilets being downstairs in the basement.
Had a lovely extended lunch at The Manor, lovely staff and good food. It was such a lovely day we stayed there for a few more hours had some more lovely wine , the staff were lovely. Top tip if you want to book for lunch and can’t get though - boom for afternoon tea and ask if you can switch to the lunch menu . The tea is served in the same room as the restaurant!
Stayed here in July for the second time. Both visits we have been upgraded this time to the Mayfair suite. We were treated amazingly by the staff. Room was glorious and very comfortable. Really appreciated the care from the lady at reception. Nothing was too much for her! Thank you for a gorgeous stay!Rooms: 5/5
Booked superior rooms, sadly when we arrived we discovered a very tired hotel. We were placed on the ground floor of the newer part it’s actually around 30 years old and hasn’t been looked after. First we find the room and the whole floor cold, our room looks out onto a bin store. It’s totally out of date and the pink bathroom is straight out of the 1990’s. We got to reception and ask for the fire door that is propped open to be closed and the hall carpet that is up exposing drains to be replaced. We go back to the room after maybe 30 mins to find the reason the fire door is propped open, a foul drains smell… Go back to complain and find the staff are rude, the manager thinks the whole situation is a little funny… We leave and have to find somewhere else, are promised a refund, don’t worry they say, we will deal with it… Well thanks, as if it’s not bad enough leaving you out there to find somewhere else, I have to message repeatedly to get a refund. Horrible hotel that needs major renovation, avoid at all costs. It’s a shambles.
We held our wedding here in Nov 21. The hotel is a little outdated and could do with some updating. For example, the curtains in one of the rooms had holes in them and there were many issues with bedrooms that had to be sorted on the morning on the wedding. We paid a lot of money to host our wedding there but the service we received was not 5*. Our wedding coordinator left during the planning and didn't hand anything over, so we had to reconfirm everything about 3 weeks before the wedding, they served different canapés to the ones we had selected and the food was nice, but not great. It had been great when we did our menu tasting, so there may have been a change of chef. I felt the suites were over priced. They didn't have a lot of the things that I would expect from a high end suite - such as a small fridge or nice toiletries.
This is the third time I have stayed at the Manor with some friends. The staff are so welcoming - nothing is too much trouble. A very friendly and relaxing atmosphere and good value for money. We will be back!Rooms: 5/5
Exrerior and Public rooms very nice but let down by room and corridors. No heating on in any corridor made the place very cold. The room was too small for the price and the bathroom was basic - no shower. There was a toilet device - apparently 2 grand worth - which did nothing. The furniture was damaged. The bed a bit saggy. The TV annoyingly small. No breakfast menus - you had to guess what was available - fairly basic choice of continental. All told disappointing.
The Manor is quintessentially British. Set in 10 acres with a good restaurant and some newer rooms annex and quirky rooms in the original building. Helpful and attentive staff make for an enjoyable stay. Nearest outside restaurants and stores are 2.5 miles away but worth an Uber, book ahead at Pablo's Italian for an excellent option to the in-house restaurant.
Horrible stay! The room was dirty and really old! There were cracks in the walls and single glazed windows with old heating systems that would not warm up. The headboard and bedcover was worn out completely! The hotel really needs upgrading! I was away for a course during the day and when I came back, my room was empty! All my belongings had vanished! When I asked reception, they had no idea and had to call security to check cctv. It was then seen that housekeeping moved my things into another room without my permission. It was an invasion of privacy! Even more shocking as nobody knew about this! Then I asked to leave, just before I left the hotel with my refund, I had another customer walk in on me as she was given the same room key! Felt very unsafe in that hotel! Breakfast was so so, nothing great. Staff however were nice and friendly, that's about it! I wouldn't recommend staying here, not as good as what the pictures display!
