Quite possibly the best dressed Christmas tree! 7 hours well spent Very relaxed atmosphere. Meet friends here for lunch, New Year's Eve. They had driven from Kent to surprise me with an end of year visit. I've been celebrating all year as it was a big birthday year for me. Couldn't have asked for a better place to meet. Beautiful food. Very relaxed atmosphere. We were there for quite a while, chatting and catching up with news. They have a kids menu too so our youngest member of the party 8yrs old found something he liked. Good variety of food which catered for all our taste, Vegetarian option, Sea Food and more traditional Sausage and Mash. Thank You guys. Will definitely return
This is a absolutely fantastic place !! We had four lovely meals, great scallops starter, wonderful Sunday lunch and a knockout burger!! The choice of mains , the veg selection, were all good! The service was outstanding! Attentive but not intrusive, totally informed about the menu and super friendly too!! Not ridiculous pricing makes for a venue of note! If you want to see how it should be done please visit this one!! I really couldn't find a fault !!! If you can try this out .. I will definitely be back again!!!
The pub was everything it was described to be and more, it was genuinely dog friendly with super lovely rooms, amazing food and exceptional service. The soundproofing of the room we stayed in, room 10 was not so great so something to be aware of as you can hear all the chitter chatter / music from the pub. I would 100% stay again and have recommend it to a number of people already.
Lovely country pub with some nice rooms for overnight stays. Close to Wells & Glastonbury. Plenty of car parking. Nice food even for veggies! Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and warm. Great value for money.
Absolutely fabulous. Six of us stayed for a night and enjoyed a fabulous dinner and breakfast. The members of staff are so so friendly and the service is exceptional along with the quility of food provided, bedrooms are also very spacious and comfortable with everything you need supplied including fresh milk for your tea which you don't normally have provided. We will definitely return again.
Amazing stay, with fabulous food and great service! Wonderful rooms with superb linens, towels and products! Breakfast is not to be missed!!! Oh and great location! The staff are fabulous, the food is incredible and the stay is exquisite! You really can't beat it for a country pub in the wonder that is Somerset!! Vegetarian options: Great choice! Parking: Easy and plentiful
We dropped in on the way by on the off-chance they would be able to squeeze us in for Sunday dinner and we were not disappointed! In fact, we were seated immediately and within 15 minutes had two steaming hot pork roasts in front of us. Absolutely beautiful food and so much better than what we could have hoped for just dropping into somewhere on a random off chance! Very welcoming staff, beautiful cosy old English style pub. I was also very interested to read that in Sept-Oct they had a deal whereby you could pay to stay and they would then give you the value of your room back in food drink and gift vouchers! Stay for free I think the offer was called. What a stunning offer and shame we missed it! You could definitely enjoy a long evening by the fire in the cosy bar area and judging by the standard we saw I bet their rooms are nice! Will definitely be returning. Thank you. Vegetarian options: Nut roast on the Sunday lunch menu Parking: Loads of parking out the back as well as the front.
Impromptu visit with 4 friends, lunchtime on 30th Dec 2022. Good beer. We all enjoyed the food. I had the fish stew new on the menu, packed with chunks of various fish. Brilliant.Food: 5/5
Following a very enjoyable first visit with friends to the restaurant I was looking forward to a second with the family. I was very disappointed, it was a completely different experience, poor, if any service and the meal wasn't the best. On arrival the two waitresses were so busy that they couldn't actually seat us at the table, we were given paper menus and left to make our own way to our table. Both waitresses were lovely but as they were running both the bar and restaurant by themselves it meant they had little time to take orders and deliver our food. The wait time between courses was far too long. The duck I ordered still contained buckshot, small metal pellets which I was lucky not to crack a tooth on. The potatoes were bad and two of our party had to try and struggle with steak without steak knives. We did try and get the attention of a waitress but in the end had to go to the bar to get steak knives before our dinner was completely cold. I did tell the waitress about the shot in the duck and her response was that this was the second time someone had mentioned this! I certainly will not be returning to The Lion and suggest anyone wanting to order duck is very wary as 'it may contain buckshot'
Good quality food , not your normal pub food something much more enjoyable. Atmosphere was great and a large selection of bears and wines on offer. Would definitely recommend!Food: 5/5
