About

The Jack Mytton Inn - Everybody's Local.

Story

The Jack Mytton Inn is a Freehouse honouring one of Britain's most famous ecccentrics. Sportsman, Soldier, Huntsman, Fighter, Mytton's Rake makes Blackadder's Lord Flashheart seem a wallflower by comparison. Under new family ownership, we are surrounded by 2 acres of private grounds bounding the famous Llangollan Canal. The Jack Mytton Inn is located in the pretty hamlet of Hindford amid the estate lands once owned by the local Regency Squire "Mad Jack" Mytton whose spirit of generosity, eccentricity and living life large infuses the restoration now taking place. His former family estate of Halston Hall is just down the road.

Our canal side moorings span an amazing 1/4 km stretch of the Llangollen Canal past Bridge 11 , a canal that is generally regarded as Britain’s prettiest narrow boat waterways for the 15,000 or so boats that go by each year. We offer private moorings for up to 6 narrow boats that will soon be signposted by a new Inn sign that is being commissioned to be clearly visible from both directions on the canal. Whether travelling by or living local, you (and your dogs and children) will be assured of a warm welcome at The Jack Mytton.

We expect Jack will be Back to reopen the doors during the summer of 2015 when The Jack Mytton will provide an improved outdoor bar and new grill area with improved seating and casual picnic areas. Inside the converted 19th Century dairy farmhouse, increased space is being created for casual fire side drinking and eating.

The M1, M6 and M54 account for all but 30 of the miles from London. The approach from the north is equally convenient. The Jack Mytton is conveniently located just 6 minutes drive from Gobowen Station on the Shrewsbury to Chester Line.

Moored our narrow boat nearby and were excited to walk here for dinner. Lovely place in a lovely setting with a great menu but very bad service. We were seated outside immediately but then totally forgotten about. When we tried to catch one of the staffs eye but they wouldn't engage with us and definitely pretended not to see us! As we had finished our first round of drinks, I went inside to complain and place an order. The food was ok but the occasion was sadly spoilt by the terrible service.

An awful meal. Wouldn't bother going again. We ate here in Jan and the Sunday roast was THE BEST we have ever eaten. Today's 'Sunday' roast was simply appalling. Resembled a frozen 'Bird's Eye' beef dinner. Lumpy mash, 2 rock hard roast potatoes, watery cabbage, thin (granules) gravy, nice swede. The service was poor too. Asked for more gravy (meal was served with a drizzle) the waiter (young man) stormed off, returned and plonked half a jug on the table! The desserts were poor too. Waffle (frozen) overdone. Brownie, dry. In fairness the apple crumble was delicious but not enough custard. What a difference to our visit in January. My advice. Avoid.
