Just went with my wife for a few drinks. Mostly middle aged customers and a fairly relaxing atmosphere. Beer quality, service and prices were good. Free entertainment (singer, keyboard player) mostly good although he was a stand in at short notice. Will be back.

Not a pub anymore more of a over crowded restaurant lost its character totally. Pushing the sale of food at every turn now and that's all you can smell most of the time. Backwards step for this much loved local.

The bar woman wasn't very friendly. The cups were dirty when making our own tea and coffee. Had to stir with a fork. Milk was in a 4 pinter that was passed over the bar when asked where the milk was. The food was tasteless. The sizzling skillet breakfast was basically a plate of fat. Sausages were soggy, the 'hashbrowns' were tiny grease soaked bullets filled with very little potato, bacon wasn't great either. Mushroom eggs and beans were edible...oh and the toast. Table and menus were dirty and sticky. When asked how the food was, i made the supervisor aware that it wasn't nice (i had left a lot of it) and instead of apologising and offering a refund, she agreed that she didn't like the 'hashbrowns' either. We wont be returning which is a shame as we enjoyed the food when we were there last august. We instead went for a second brunch to the beacon up the road which was warm, friendly, lovely food, helpful staff and we spent 4 hours there as the atmosphere was worlds apart from the hunting lodge. Unfortunately the makeover has been a waste of money as the makeover should have started with the chef and supervisor.

Daughters choice for birthday lunch and the newly refurbished pub did not disappoint! Huuuge portions of gorgeous tasting food, even the salad was delish!! New staff aren't as friendly or interactive, that's the only negative!
