Story

Conveniently located for Bath, Bristol and Wells, this privately owned free house is renowned for its homemade food, well stocked cellar and warm welcome. In Winter log fires crackle in the hearths while in Summer our landscaped gardens are ideal for a cooling drink.

The Hunters Rest Inn was originally built around 1750 as a hunting lodge for The Earl of Warwick.

The Earl picked his site perfectly, set in beautiful countryside high on Clutton Hill with commanding views over the Cam Valley to the Mendip Hills, and over The Chew Valley to the port of Bristol.
In 1892 The Earl sold his vast estate in Somerset, the former lodge became a smallholding and tavern supplying refreshment to the growing coal mining community.

Over the years mining died out but the small Inn evolved to become one of the most popular in the area.

The Hunters Rest successfully combines the character and atmosphere of a delightful country Inn with the high standards and ameneties expected by todays guests.

Had a lovely "ladies who lunch" today. We all had the superb ham, egg and chips. Lovely thick local ham, with the fresh free range eggs cooked to perfection, as we are all a bit fussy, done as requested. There was just the right amount of chips to complement. For dessert, two of us had cheesecake and one the clotted cream icecream. We were all very happy and full!

Went to The Hunters Rest Sat 24th March with 3 friends for a meal, 2 of my friends had lovely meals,my other friend and myself had Lasagna,it looked lovely when it arrived, but when we started to eat it we found it was over cooked and very dry so we left most of it,we mentioned it to the member of staff that cleared our table but no one came out to apologize .I appreciate everyone was busy, but I have been to busier places and someone would always check to see if everything was to our satisfaction. We paid our bill in full but went away very disappointed.
