Really, really shocking how unhelpful this place is when you need them most. After spending an age waiting for someone to pick the phone up listening to pre-recorded messages of them basically encouraging you to hang up and go away, you are met with a load of "can't do" and negativity. When you are ill, you expect to be seen fairly swiftly. Nobody chooses to fall ill, or indeed, fall ill at a time that is convenient for them to see you. If there ever is such a thing! More often than not, you don't get anywhere in the end and have to make your own private health, walk in or 111 arrangements. Occasionally you might get offered a phone appointment with a nurse in something ridiculous like 3 weeks. For the odd time when something can wait and you try to book something well in advance, again it's the "can't do" attitude and some rubbish about how they don't have the time slots ready for then. What on earth are you supposed to do to get an appointment here? The only thing they're good for these days is sending my repeat prescription to my pharmacy.
E consult is great service if not needing to see a medic asap. Such as requesting PRN meds or consideration for onward referral. E consult completed yesterday and request actioned and meds sent to pharmacy today, faultless service! E consult also and saves the horrendous experience of trying to get through on the phone. Not the surgeries fault either, don't blame the staff, blame the Tories!
I completed an online triage today and received a call back first thing from Dr Gall, and appointment booked same day. She was lovely , and managed to book an appointment straight through the Rvi, without having to wait. Great service, very happy.
Been having an issue with my foot, have been given 6 different prescrips and doctor wants to just keep trying the same again, awful service, I'll be moving doctors as soon as i can, no communication at all and having to explain the problem every time I get in touch and get a different doctor, never felt so mistreated even in a shop let along a GP!! Wish I could put 0 stars on this!
In 2018 I started to experience pain in my upper stomach. Having a history of stomach ulcers, I contacted my GP to seek help and they precribed me antacid tablets. There was no improvement within the next few weeks so I went to consult my GP again, they gave me a stronger dose of antacid tablets and did a blood test. No improvement/bloods came back normal. I went back again, they changed my antacid and asked for a stool sample. Still no improvement and stool test came back clear. In the meantime I stopped drinking coffee, alcohol, fatty and spicy foods, ate smaller meals and even stopped the antidepressant I used to take at that time as "it could irritate my stomach" following the GP's advice! Nothing changed at all and I felt desperate to be heard as the daily pain was debilitating and nobody seemed to take it seriously or care. I finally managed for them to send me for an endoscopy where they found a hiatal hernia BUT didn't suggest any treatment or surgery and kept prescribing me useless antacid tablets! I ended up asking a referral to go private where, within months, a surgeon sent me for an abdominal scan that showed 3 gallstones + a nanometry test revealing my acid PH was perfectly normal but showed a motility disorder in my oesophagus + another endoscopy that determined I had a paraesophageal hernia that needed surgery. More than 2 years of daily crazy pain later, someone was finally listening to me and I had my gallbladder removed + hernia repaired by laparoscopic surgery. Days after the surgery I went completely pain free for the first time in years!!!! I consider myself privileged to have access to private healthcare because I would probably still eating omeprazole like gummy bears right now! Fast forward to end of 2021 where I contacted my GP for a pea size lump in my groin. After looking at it, GP said "it's probably just a lymph node, it should go away within 6 weeks". One week later the lump was double the size so I went back to the GP where she told me it could be a harmless cyst. I told her I needed more than a "probably or could be" so I pushed for a scan. Weeks later revealed it's a very rare hydrocele and I am planned to get it fixed by surgery. Sorry for the novel but there are not enough words in English literature to express how I feel about this completely utterly useless bunch of "doctors" that seem to forget what they're supposed to do of their days. Pure disgrace.
No sympathy from the reception staff. ran out of meds for my bad back over the weekend, they were busy the monday that the phone kept hanging up on me, closed the tuesday for training, wednesday got through and have to have a review on my medication, but have to wait to call on thursday for an appointment as calling midday means all appointments are gone. i told them that i needed this urgently otherwise will get horrific withdrawal as well as being in utter agony for the last few days and she just had no sympathy for me. not to mention the drs have had no sympathy on my back since i first told them about it in january! yet whilst testing to find out what is going on they didn't think to even attempt pain management until 4 weeks ago when i called them sobbing!! Do better, and don't use the excuse of low funding to punish your patients, you took an oath of care so at least act like you do.
I have spent a very frustrating 3 days trying to get treatment for a child with asthma. The child is already registered with the surgery has been diagnosed with asthma and has run out of inhalers. I've spent hours trying to get an appointment or prescription and when I can get through I've been given conflicting advice. In the end the doctor actually called my child at school during a lesson on her mobile which she is not allowed to answer during school, and I'm still waiting for a call back. Why not just speak to the parent or call after school hours or give us an inhaler until an appointment becomes available......I have decided to change surgeries after this experience and after 20 years as a patient.
I was told by a doctor in A & E at the RVI where I had a head wound stitched following a fall that I would need to make an appointment for the following week to have them removed or they could leave scarring or become infected if I left them in. I was told by the receptionist that only the nurse could do that WHY??? and she wasn't available until the 16th. I asked why a doctor couldn't do it and was told they were all very busy and maybe I should go to a walk in centre. Unbelievable !!! The more staff you have working there the less efficient you seem to become. A doctor has advised me to see a doctor in a weeks time and a receptionist tells me I can't and I need to see THE nurse who is not available until the 16th of November. .Pathetic and not good enough by a long way !!! I would have awarded NIL stars if I could in this instance although when you do get past the receptionists the doctors are actually very professional and efficient .I suspect you never read these and favour us with a reply. Either that or it's another part of the all powerful receptionist role and with their abundance of medical qualifications they decide the doctors or practice manager doesn't need to know about dissatisfied patients. But the BMA and/or the medical Ombudsmen might have a view.......!!!
Don't bother trying to register, you won't EVER be able to get through, left with chronic ear infection.. Refused o G9ve antibiotics, today I changed to Benfield Park and got seen straightaway and offered an appointment straight away. Infection spread down to kneck, neglected by these doctors, left deaf in ome ear, will be seekeng legal advic So, since moving to be field Park medical group I hae been informed that heaton road surgery missed my sons needles! Hey did not inform. Me or offer any needles. Also they missed my routi e smear, I have previously had abnormal results, after seeking this information from new gp, after they sent an appointment out, they told the doctors should hae sent it out in the post. The staff are lovely, however they are at a loose end. This surgery is overwhelmed by patients. Hey can not andle he pressure of a big patient list. This is so dangerous. These are peoples lives we are talking about.. Not £ sings! e
just to write to thank all the staff at the surgery foran excellent, professional medical advisory service which has helped me now since the mid 70's in last century. thank you Paul Baker
