Went to this beautiful restaurant with some local friends and fellow travelers. The decoration inside was beautiful and the ambiance was relaxed and friendly. There was even a doggo at the table next to us. I love places that serve Michelin food but are still neighborhood favorites. Definitely recommend. Kid-friendliness: We had a baby with us and they were very accommodating
We had a lovely Friday lunch here, and it didn’t start to get busy until after 1. The mains were our favourites beef short rib and pork and the Pimms Trifle was a must have. To call this place a pub is an understatement, it’s fine dining in a pub shell. Well worth a stop.Food: 5/5
We ate here this week and had a memorable meal! They offer a 2-course or 3-course meal option. I don’t understand the criticisms here so I wanted to say that I found the food flavorful, beautifully plated, and worth the price. Every dish left an impression! We had Veggie Scotch Eggs, rabbit lasagna, asparagus, venison, and the fish… In addition, our server was extremely friendly and helpful! I’ll be back :
We really loved The Harwood Arms. It is such a pleasure to have exceptional food in a casual, relaxed setting. The dining room is rustic and cozy. And even though The Harwood Arms is a pub, the service is top notch. The food is classic British cooking with a focus on game and wild meat. My favorite dish was the venison scotch egg with Oxford sauce. It was beautiful with a runny golden yolk. My only complaint is that it came out with instead of ahead of my starter as requested. The thyme flavored sauce on the rabbit lasagne was phenomenal. The Berkshire Fallow Deer was perfectly cooked and served with mushrooms and onions. They had dessert special, a date custard tart, that we were lucky to get. I also enjoyed their gin list and tried three different English gins, each one delicious. I highly recommend it. Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome and there is a small kids menu.
Hands down this spot offers one of the best roasts in London. Crispy Yorkshire puddings and glass-like roast potatoes, carrots and broccoli cooked just soft enough that the crunch doesn’t get lost in translation, and the stars of the show, the protein beef the Sirloin of Belted Galloway and pork Iberian pork with jowl. Service was very good, waiters were very attentive and made lots of great conversation. My belly and I rolled home to the other side of London very happy and content with life. Vegetarian options: The vegetarian scotch egg was really sublime!
The wife and I used to come here a lot about a decade ago when London food scene was a lot weaker and this was a go to destination. It was great then and it’s only got better! No idea what people on here are doing complaining about the service, they must just be miserable as the service was so warm and friendly! Brian’s service was absolutely spot on and perfectly balanced between warm, jovial and friendly and professional, informative and on point. The rest of the team we spoke to were all well prepped and going out of their way to accommodate anything we asked for. And the food… mmmmmmm, omg, just so clever, pushing boundaries with different ideas and yet perfect execution and all in keeping with that pub style setting. Both vegetarian and venison scotch eggs are probably the best in London and lead to a fun debate over which is better! That rabbit lasagne was just so different and so well executed with a perfect Riesling foam. The deer and short rib were amazing, once again with perfect complimentary sauces and sides, which you mop up with those delicious crispy potatoes. This is just perfect Michelin star level pub food. Their only issue I can think of is that they’re hitting up against certain people’s preconceived ideas of what to expect of a Michelin starred pub. I think some people come expecting Wetherspoon prices and others come expecting the white tablecloths and stiff service of a three star. Who knows, but I can safely say that if you know your food, know what a great restaurant is and have respect for the effort it takes to build and run an establishment like this then you will appreciate why this has become an absolute institution and is a bucket list place to try whilst in London!
That was the best Sunday Roast I've ever had. Every course was perfect, and the service was fantastic. Highlights for me personally were the vegetarian scotch egg, the roast venison, and the apple dessert. Will definitely be going back.Food: 5/5
I was looking forward to this reservation as I had to book this months in advance for a Sunday slot and whilst I am glad to have tried it out, it’s not somewhere I would rush to come back. The food was tasty but I didn’t think it was exceptionally different from many other high end pubs with prices 1/3 of the price. The venison scotch egg was the highlight and it was a shame that wasn’t included in the main 3 course menu and needed to pay for that on top. The wine was also very good although not a wide range of price options. Aside from the food, the service was sadly not that special or attentive, and I was expecting more for the price we paid.
Quite underwhelmed with the Sunday roast here tbh. Huge amount of hype around it, had to book well, in advance, but quite frankly have had much better roasts for a fraction of the price. Nice pub, really nice decor & the staff were friendly. The venison scotch egg was lovely. And tbh my roast was decent enough, lamb was cooked well & potatos great. However the portions were incredibly small for the huge price tag £55 for 2 courses. They also serve a hipster alternatvie to Coke which was £6 for a small bottle and, honestly, wasn't particularly nice. My wife's portion of pork was insanely small - 3 tiny pieces, 1 of which was nearly all fat. The vegetables provided was totally insufficient 1 piece of carrot each & 2 pieces of tenderstem broccili!. Value for money wise, terrible. £150 for what we had, as I say, very underwhelming.
Food was not as promising as i expected. After all it has a 1 Michelin star. The scotch eggs were nothing special, same as the venison pate en croute. Desserts passable and mains just ok. On top of that, service was not attentive. I wouldn’t make it a destination - however I would go again if I were in the area.
