Saturday Lunch. Restaurant was quite quiet, dampening the atmosphere.nnThe black pudding starter was just your standard fare with pepper sauce, but cooked well. the scampi was fresh and seemed homemade.nnThe Caesar salad was brilliant, very fresh, homemade dressing, chargrilled chicken and fresh anchovies; which were like butter!nnPresentation was excellent.
Delicious late evening Sunday dinner that I booked last minute on a friend's recommendation. Roast chicken didn't disappoint and importantly came with a proper homemade Yorkshire and was piping hot. It's rubbish when you go for a roast and can only have a Yorkshire when you have beef. Gravy and roasties were delicious. My only minor complaint is it came piled high in a pasta bowl rather than on a plate. Had the Sicilian tart for dessert, which was also very tasty. Staff were all lovely and friendly. Will definitely come back and bring my dog next time.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely and rather quiet, the staff were friendly but barely actually interacted with us, however it was a busy night. The sausages were rather chewy and hard to eat, you would have thought there was a shortage of mashed potatoes. And the soup was lovely but again the portion size was rather small. The dessert which I had however, I cannot fault, it was lovely. Overall an alright experience.
Service was painfully slow despite very few diners. The triple cooked chips were not; at best they looked and tasted as single cooked and were memorable for the wrong reasons. We have never seen a fries/chip container that was smaller - REALLY, you are not one of these pretentious fine dining establishments althouth the dessert prices were on the high side. However the cajun burger was fine although the cajun fries lacked flavour. Maybe 'caught' them on an off day?
Wonderful pub classics cooked well, offering what feels like a premium dining experience, but at very reasonable rates.nnWhoever the chefs are at this place need a pat on the back. It might seem like a rather unasssuming location but it's well worth travelling to for the cosy atmosphere and excellent food. The staff were very friendly and were very swift when it came to bri ging drinks and meals. Cannot fault the service at all.
