The location is great, and the place looks beautiful. It looks like it would have great atmosphere for some drinks. Unfortunately the food is hit or miss - the fish and chips weren't great and tasted like microwaved fish fingers. The water glasses also were not completely clean and neither was my dish. The food also took at least 45 minutes to arrive.
Gloucester Road £6.20 Estrella A large Grade II listed corner pub in SW7. . This 19th century pub sits boldly on a corner of Gloucester Rd in plush South Kensington. Getting here is easy with Gloucester Rd tube just a five minute walk away. . This is a Greene King pub which thankfully maintains its elegance and hasn’t been plastered in the garish green and gold signage you see on the majority of Greene King’s central London pubs. . This boozer is a good size and has a traditional feel to it. There are dark wood floors and dark wood wall panelling throughout. There are loads of seating options which makes this pub good for large groups and the servery has plenty of standing space for busier times. Sports fans won’t be disappointed as there are a few screens showing live sport. . Today’s pint here was Estrella, It was a decent pint and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Price point was just above average for London. There’s plenty of pub grub on offer here, fish and chips costs £15.29. . The staff here were welcoming and attentive, the chap who served me was most courteous. The atmosphere was chilled with the odd outbreak of laughter from a nice bunch of young Irish lads who were having the craic. I was watching Soccer Saturday along with a few other punters, this would be a good place to watch the World Cup games. . The @gloucester_arms was a nice surprise and I really enjoyed this pub. Definitely worth a look when you’re in South Ken. . ℹ Information correct on visiting 29/10/22
Nice local pub, walked in with no reservation, friendly obliging bartender, ordered a few beer at the bar and wine, selection was fine. Had fish and chips followed by sticky toffee pudding, food was basic but good. Friendly atmosphere.
We booked online for a specific time, we we're welcomed and the table was ready for us when we arrived. I downloaded the app without any issues, staff offered to help with our orders in case we ran into a glitch. Drinks arrived promptly, the food arrived warm. Excellent quality and as expected from a pub in a prime location. The interior is charming, a truly British ambience. The Greene King IPA ale is delicious. Fish and chips is tasty. Price range in this pub is as expected. They have outside seating. There is a step from the pavement into the premises and also another step to go to the toilet level. One thing to consider for wheelchair users and with prams. There is another entrance on the side, not sure if this is a step-free entrance. All staff we encountered were nice and friendly. I can go back here again without second thoughts. Lovely experience.
A pub that doesn't serve beer? This place used to be fine, but nowadays they are CONSTANTLY out of almost all the beers they purport to have on tap. Typically, none of the real ales are on, none of the keg ales, and most of the lagers are off too. So despite having a wide range of taps, you end up with a choice of just a couple of lagers and some bottled beers. What's the point? Better to head to the Queen's Arms, or down the road towards the tube station.
A funny pub, by that I mean it makes you laugh. Not a bad thing. An engaging vibe, helped by lovely staff, smiling, efficient and helpful. Plenty of keg to challenge you and a couple of casks for the real alers. A fun unexpected experience, a good pub. Visit is my recommendation. Also just a stone's throw away, the Zambian embassy. Here lived the Painter, Millais. Wow. Question, did Millais used to drink at the Gloucester?
Called in on way to Albert Hall. Distinctly pedestrian food. Sandwich menu not served after six apparently so poor quality Hunters Chicken and chips. My gfs fish gujons and Rosemary fries suffered in that they were not Rosemary fries . 30 mins wait, OK we'll ride with that, but with the cost of eating out now so high you need to raise your game from this. I wanted to be delighted.I was disappointed. Took photo of big pile of plates on bar with uneaten food on. Says it all really...
Yo did someone say a sick pub or what? Came here for the England game and atmosphere was ecstatic! Staff were on point for this evening with both enjoyable conversation and quick on order with the drinks. Would recommend to anyone looking for a watering hole to stop off.
Visited at 4pm on Tuesday afternoon. No real ales - "the bank of pumps are broken and we've been waiting ages for them the brewery, I suspect to come and fix them. Perhaps they could fix the lack of steak too - no Philly Steak sandwich, nor Steak and Ale pie. Burger was ordered and arrived quickly, and was very nice, but the onion rings were hard and overdone. Oh well,
Came in for something for lunch time, we tried to order a couple of items but was informed that about half of the meny was unavailable due to the chef leaving. This was completely fine, can understand that it takes time to employ another one. However, when the food arrived the chicken wings looked dried up and old and tasted of nothing, neither did the garlic sauce that came out with it. The lasagna was reheated and mushy, tasting like something out of a can. We told this to the waiters as we did pay 20 pounds for this. First server was nothing but lovely and really sorry we didn't enjoy the food. He asked his colleague if it was possible to make a refund for the food which we didn't even expect but really nice. Colleague said this was not possible and was denying our complaints... we asked if the food was made fresh and not reheated, her answer was "yes it doesn't get any fresher, we make it all fresh, freeze it and the heat it again". At this point it all seemed like a joke, and all she could do was get us a free drink.... Might be obvious, but we won't be returning...
