Tour group was small and the guide was very fun and knowledgeable. A good experience being able to see the theater from different vantages. At the end we were sent to the exhibit area on our own and I would certainly do that as it was well done. There were actors rehearsing when we were there so we were not allowed to take pictures with any actor in it. This was a fun experience, but did limit the photo opportunities. It would be nice if there was some way to know ahead of time.
My family and I were in London for just 2 days, and we decided that The Globe had to be on the list. Originally, we were planning to see a show, but when we saw there was a Queer History Tour option, we went for that. Our tour guide, Leah, was phenomenal. She was well prepared, funny, and knowledgeable. I love how she treated queerness through a historical lens and was able to articulate something so personal and charged with such grace and care. I had a smile on my face the whole time. If you're nearby, I highly recommend this tour.
The Globe Theatre in London is a remarkable venue that beautifully intertwines history and modern theatrical artistry, making it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Shakespearean drama. Our recent experience watching "King Henry V" was nothing short of extraordinary, made even more special by the unique backdrop of this iconic theatre, which replicates the original Globe built in 1599 by Shakespeare’s playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men. As we approached The Globe, the striking timber-framed structure immediately captured our attention. The open-air design and circular shape evoke the ambiance of Elizabethan theatre, allowing for a deep connection with both the performance and the surrounding environment. The theatre’s layout, reminiscent of its historical roots, features a vibrant pit where audience members can feel close to the action, much like the lively crowds of Shakespeare’s time. The performance of "King Henry V" was masterfully executed, showcasing the exceptional talent of the cast. The actors brought Shakespeare’s language to life with energy and passion, making the complex themes of leadership, honor, and camaraderie resonate with modern audiences. The staging was inventive, utilizing the space creatively to enhance the storytelling, and the live music added an extra layer of depth to the experience, reminiscent of the dynamic performances that captivated Elizabethan audiences. One of the standout aspects of The Globe is its commitment to maintaining an authentic atmosphere. The use of period costumes and minimalistic set design allowed the audience to focus on the text and the performances. The central stage, exposed to the elements, along with the natural light streaming in, created an enchanting ambiance that transported us back in time, much like the original Globe did for its spectators. The staff at The Globe were friendly and helpful, ensuring that our visit was enjoyable from start to finish. The availability of refreshments and snacks added to the overall experience, creating a relaxed environment that encouraged us to savor the moment while enjoying the performance. In summary, The Globe Theatre is an exceptional venue that offers a unique blend of history, culture, and artistry. Watching "King Henry V" there was a memorable experience that highlighted the power of live theatre, all while being surrounded by the rich legacy of Shakespeare's work. If you’re a fan of Shakespeare or simply looking for an engaging cultural experience in London, The Globe should definitely be at the top of your list. The combination of stunning performances, the enchanting setting, and the historical significance makes it a truly unforgettable destination.
JUST WONDERFUL. Went yesterday, on a Saturday evening, to see Much ado about nothing and it was my first time at The Globe... I was in utter awe. I was in bay J, upper gallery. The view of the stage was amazing, definitely immersive experience. I recommend to get the cushion downstairs it's just 3£ and to use the interval to stretch your legs. I loved it. Will be back soon.
I visited the Globe Theatre on a bank holiday to watch “The Comedy of Errors” with a standing ticket. Initially, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see the play because I’m short, so I got a ticket for the front row. However, it didn’t really matter, as you’re free to stand wherever you like. If you book a standing ticket and want to choose a good spot, I recommend arriving at least 40 minutes before the opening time. The theatre itself has a wonderfully historic atmosphere that truly makes you feel like you’ve stepped back into the Elizabethan era. It was a memorable experience.
We saw A Comedy of Errors at the Globe. It was fantastic! One of the main actors was sick so there was a stand in not understudy reading from script but she did so great that it didn't take away from the show at all. I would absolutely recommend going to a show.Visited onWeekdayWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
I saw The Taming of the Shrew at the Globe. It was a quirky performance, not in the traditional Shakespearean style. However, it was still very enjoyable. Just being in the round, the ambience, and the audience participation were exciting for me! The gift shop and other amenities were interesting to explore. We saw Richard III which was excellent. We sat in the Upper Gallery in section H which gave us a great view. This was our first visit so we didn't quite know what to expect. There are three rows of seats in each section, and they are narrow benches with no backs. The back row can lean back on the wooden wall around the section and the front row can lean forward on the wooden railing. We were in the middle row so couldn't lean back and could sort of lean forwards on a metal rail - seasoned visitors seem to pick the front or back rows. You can hire cushions from the huts outside for £3, and backrests for £4. They also sell rain ponchos for those standing and folded fans. I would definitely recommend a seat cushion. If you find it difficult to sit for long periods of time or are above average height you might be better off either with a standing ticket or one of the boxes, which have different seats. Staff were helpful and friendly. A water fountain is provided for free water and the toilets are easily accessible. Bear in mind that if you stand you might be asked to 'join in' - not on stage, but via interacting with the actors.
One of my favourite places in London! I used to think of Shakespeare as incomprehensible, but the actors at The Globe really bring it to life - the comedies are my favourite and have been some of the funniest shows I've seen in any theatre. A really unique experience that you just can't get anywhere else in the world.Wait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
The guided tour at this recreation of the historic Shakespeare's Globe is one of the best experiences you can have in London, especially for a theatre enthusiast! To just stand there and imagine the magnificent chaos that would have been the theatre experience 400 years ago is exhilarating! To add to that, being an active performance venue, there are modern day actors and directors working on their next production while you take the tour!
