I’ve been going to the George for years, but something has definitely changed. I spent £170 there yesterday for 2 and the food was just tasteless. When a meal costs that much you have certain expectations; and the George just doesn’t meet those expectations anymore.nnThis wasn’t even a one off bad meal, last time we visited we were given a £50 voucher due to the bad quality of the meal, so we came back and left even more disappointed than the last time.nnThe service is always great, but it doesn’t make up for tasteless food and a venue in dire need of a refresh.nnI won’t be going back again now, if you want a good meal in Stamford, I’d recommend the Slanted Door.
Located just off the town centre in the beautiful city of Stamford it was a delight to visit here. We won a gift card for an afternoon tea for two so me and my partner took a visit down. The George is a beautiful characteristic old building which was really refreshing to see. The afternoon teas were delightful and as me and my partner wanted to try something different we voted for the hot chocolate option for our drink which was lovely and chocolatey. They asked us if the sandwich choices were okay which was good. The scones were lovely and warmed being presented with both a cheese and fruit scone with their trimmings. A favourite dessert was definitely the chocolate mousse being delectably rich in flavour. If I was to note anything however it was the lack of staff presence- there were long periods of time when no service were present and so we couldn’t get anyone’s attention, for example for another drink etc. I maybe wouldn’t pay the amount coupled with the absent service but with a gift card it was a delightful afternoon and experience
If I have ever stayed here it was more than 35 years ago ! However, I had lunch in the Garden Room restaurant recently which was was good value for money, albeit expensive. Well presented and perfectly cooked calves' liver with mash, cabbage and and smooth well prepared sauce. A glass of Corbières was also very good quality and justified its relatively high price for the cheapest red on the list ! Thank you.
Everything about this Hotel is of the highest standard. The Oak Panelled Restaurant and Garden Room offer an amazing variety of dishes, all using only the highest quality. Professional and enthusiastic Staff throughout and the HousekeepingnDepartment do deserve a special mention. So highly recommended.
We knew we were going to have an amazing experience here as soon as we walked through the door. The staff greeted us with a big smile and immediately asked if we needed any help and made us feel very welcome. We had booked a room for our Nans 90th birthday meal. And the incredible experience continued. Our server was kind attentive and always eager to please. The food was incredible which was a set menu. And having a look around the venue it looked amazing. I would happily come here again and recommend anyone to come here as we all had an incredible experience.
