This was a pleasant pub to stop off for a drink at before catching a train, where the bar is well-presented and I was served by lovely, patient staff there! The lights and design inside are glorious, accompanying me appropriately as I sat at a comfortable striped seat. A placemat made for a neat addition at my round table, one that had been cleanliness fully maintained in line with the pub area as a whole!
Really would be nice to come here one night, and not to be looked at as if I had piddled on your cornflakes this morning. I know you’ve had enough for one night, but there’s worse places to work. Trust me. This section is mainly just for a handful of people including some management, and not for the otherwise very sunny faces that work here. But great ales for a really good price! Venue was clean and tidy and toilets have been in much better condition as of late.
It's a spoons what more do you need to know. Ordering from the app on your phone and food and drink arrives no problem no hassle. Food is cheap but good Drink is cheap but good Toilets as with every spoons are located in a different country by the distance you have to walk to them
The place where people usually meet up for a cheap drink before moving on somewhere better. There are two floors with diners usually sitting upstairs where there is a smaller bar and toilets. Decent sized beer garden for lovers of vape and tobacco. The food is ok, it's weather spoons so don't expect a meal to remember but it's hot and served promptly. Toilets are where this place loses a point. You're lucky if there's any toilet paper and toilets could do with some work but again it's weather spoons.
28th August Birthday Breakfast Update My sister treated me to breakfast here on my birthday. Service was fast & friendly. The food was decent. 24th September 2020 Update Now there's a queuing system at the entrance. You need to wait 2m apart. there's a desk where they take your name and number. The back is for food and the front for drinking only. Find yourself a free table. You can only order using their app as it's table service only. Covid review There's had sanitiser on the way in. there's a form to fill in if you want to. At the bar there are spots on the floor to show you where to queue. i was in the wrong place and one of the staff helpfully pointed me to the right place :- You queue at the till and order there or use their app. They prefer contactless but you can still use cash. I couldn't see any other patrons wearing a mask other than myself. There are only screens between tables at the back and that's where i sat. Wifi wasn't working today which is unusual 2019 review Decent cheap varied tap selection. Good food
Like it. Visiting Fridays regularly with neighbour for fish and chips. Nice place and friendly staff. Fish quality improved. some times not enough salt and this little bags with mayonnaise so hard to open. Good that there is place where to play darts. Quick service and even quicker when you order from bar online! Thank you P.S Today 10/02 was I thinking the best portion of fish and chips. Thanks
You won't get better value in a pub or a place that is so welcoming yet laid back. I am comfortable enough to be in here by myself or with friends. I always feel safe. The food is good and quite varied and is always hot, well presented and good value. Wetherspoon's sells some real ales and ciders backed by CAMRA- you get a discount with your card if you are a member. It is so great that you can ask for a free sample so you can try new drinks that are on draught without risking spending on something you don't like. There is also a large selection of bottled drinks. Various coffees, tea and hot chocolate are available and you can have re-fills of any using the cup you get when you first buy a hot drink. Refills are self- service and unlimited. I highly recommend the latte and hot chocolate which are especially lovely on a cold day in front of a lovely fire. The staff are definitely due a mention as they make this pub such a great place to spend a few hours. I have come to be happy to see their friendly faces and they get to know the regulars. Everyone is in the in-crowd at The Gatehouse. I have been 100s of times over the years and I can truly say I have never witnessed any trouble. I am quite certain too if I were a lone woman in town in need of help I could go to The GateHouse and be safe. I should mention that though the main toilets are upstairs there is one downstairs, accessible via a Radar key or a member of staff. Things of note also are a great selection of condiments to self- serve with meals, and the breakfasts in particular are delicious. Kevin is a really great member of staff- my personal favourite- and Roy management really knows his trade and runs an excellent seller. You can even request guest ales via a request box on the bar. Home from home- everyone fits in here.
Clean an tidy. Standard fittings for a wetherspoons. Early morning breakfast delicious as always. Nice addition free iced water on the bar.
I wasn't buying so didn't make a comment but the food was poorly cooked on this occasion. Had I been paying I would definitely have made a complaint. The meat was very dry and being a Monday there was no daily special. The beer was okay and the company, my friend who paid, was great.
Great staff, always happy to help. Central location and always clean. Not the venue's fault but tends to get clientele that drink a lot! ......for breakfast or most of the day. Sometimes it feels like it's gonna kick off, so only a 4 from me
