Nice balance: local pub pool table, lads having pints some gals chit chatting whilst having a cig outside - and under cover! A triumvirate of lads having a quiet drink outside. Nice for visitors: a nice menu, friendly staff. We both had fish, chips and peas. Perhaps the best fish 'n' chips I've ever had. Coffee - OK, but there's a Costa in town if they are open There is a takeaway window outside, handy. We initially just had coffee. We asked for a wall heater to be turned on which they happily did, we came back for a meal an hour or so later. Plenty of space - Friday night late January just after 7pm.
Wonderful somewhat hidden gem of Lyme Regis. Great pub food with a Greek vein running through the specials. Generous portions and decent cask ales from Palmers Dorset brewery. Always a good sign when the 4 year old polishes off every scrap - then has room for dessert!
Very, very disappointing. Ordered two takeaway lunches, one was just about OK the pulled pork gyros but the prawn sandwich was awful. It was tasteless, wet and had no salad leaves or anything similar. For £8 a total rip-off. Asked to see the Manager to make them aware, but there wasn't one! The staff just wanted to put the cash in my hand and get rid of me. So disappointed, no ownership of the problem or desire to understand, just move on to the next customer. The worst service, food and experience in over 25 years of Lyme Regis. Come on The Royal Standard, you are better than this, or at least you were!
Went for an evening meal. They served my friend but didn't serve me. I had to ask for my meal, and still it didn't arrive Basically the children who were serving had given my meal to someone else, but those at the bar wouldn't admit that. When I finally got my burger my friend had finished her meal. It was tasty, which is why the three stars, but not worth the hassle and over-priced.
A wettish, windyish evening was brightened by a nice pint and some good crispy fish and chips Busy time but we received quick service, and the guy clearing tables was so polite and efficient I love it when people are great at their jobs. A really pleasant and easy hour or so chatting to some locals too.
Lovely spot located right in front of the sea, the food was good I recommend the squid are really good and the curry as well, the staff are a bit unpleasant also the don’t have table service and the prices are a bit too high.
We've visited this fab place for years. The menu has changed over the years with the Greek influence. I love Greek food, but we personally visit for the seafood. And this time felt there was less of the beautiful seafood and more Greek choices. Which I imagine through the non tourist season is an absolute winner. This year was a little different, still covid safe, so quiet but a little strict. I felt. I understand why, especially with roudy customers. But I just stepped in for a menu when there was none outside and felt I'd be naughty. All that aside. As always, the food was just fab. Whitebait to die for. Mussels so fresh and just cooked perfect, seabass just beautiful. Plenty of food. Good fair prices. Children's menu the chicken goujons were not breaded or battered so my daughter wasn't so impressed. Nice chicken, but she'd have been happier with Billy basic nuggets! Kids! Anyway We always visit, and we will be back 100%
The food was outstanding! The staff were really friendly, even kindly charged my phone whilst we ate! Children and dogs clearly welcomed too! Toilets clean and the food is very reasonably priced given the quality and portion sizes!
Great service, wonderful food. Greek theme is nice, still British food available. Vegan options are good! Highly recommend. Price is very reasonable. On tap beer selection and some non-alcoholic ones too.
Would have been 5 stars if the staff didn't look so miserable but it was probably 40 degrees so that might have had something to do with it. The food and drink was pretty standard for a pub and the staff did a good job at serving us and deserved their tip. We liked the unhurried casual atmosphere and their system for ordering.
