I found it to be an interesting little pub away from the main tourist traps of York, but close enough to be easily accessible. The beer was well poured and it had very comfy seating.
A comfortable, friendly, unpretentious inn close to the heart of York. Good local beer and a generous breakfast. Free parking too - a valuable bonus in this old city. Noteworthy details: Free parking
We stayed here and have visited previous years just for a drink. This pub is perfect for a drink, it is lovely in winter with the log fire on and a great selection of drinks, the decoration in the pub is interesting and cosy. This year we stayed for a couple of nights - I personally would not stay here again just due to a few room issues, however the staff were amazing and lovely and as when we've visited before it was lovely to have a drink in the pub! Breakfast was included in the booking which was good. We will certainly continue to visit for drinks when we come to York!
Great pub good choice of beers great locationService: 5/5
Just come back from a weekend stay at the exhibition and as normal the stay was spot on staff friendly as ever rooms lovely and the breakfast is to die for
Great pub to visit when in York.. Great Choice of Beers and a roaring fire going.. Service: 5/5
My favourite pub in the city! The pub itself is a treasure, in a city with 365 pubs its easy for them to all blend into one and be forgettable, but not this one! The interior design is welcoming and has that traditional pub feel, which embraces you and welcomes you in for a drink. The beer garden is 'the longest in York' and rightly so, it's massive. There are plenty of tables and umbrellas to shelter from the sun, and sit down and drink. The staff were the best, each and everyone of them. Whilst I didn't catch all of their names, they all made an effort to greet me, have a chat at the bar and wished us well at the end of the night - something which you don't get very often these days. The manageress was outstanding, you can tell her passion for the trade, and her willingness to go above and beyond to make your stay as best it can be. The selection of draught beers, ciders and ales is brilliant, with something for everyone and their 'cocktail of the day' is always something new, different and delicious! I visited here several times throughout my visit to York, and kept coming back for the reasons mentioned above, and plan to go again upon my next visit to the city. I cannot thank the staff enough for their efforts, and wish them every success
