The Exchange
"The Exchange is a major contemporary art space in the centre of Penzance that opened in 2007 in conjunction with renovations to Newlyn Art Gallery. Together the galleries present contemporary work in all media by regional, national and international artists, with a supporting programme of events.Formerly the town’s telephone exchange, the huge space retains the original industrial feel of the building and features a large t-shaped gallery and a striking glass facade that runs the entire length of the building. The Exchange is located off Chapel Street, within easy walking distance of the bus and train stations. There is a well-stocked book & gift shop and a café."

Reviews
The exhibition wasn't really my thing, but it was quite interesting, particularly the videos. I had a lovely, relaxing coffee in a comfy chair in the café. All the staff were friendly & helpful.
Linked to Newlyn Art Gallery. Thought maybe this would have some art. Nope. Another preachy display about climate change. Cafe selection was really poor. Another disappointment
A bigger waste of money and space is only equalled by its sister space Newlyn art gallery. Nothing to see whatsoever- took 5 minutes- literally! Only gave it 1 star because can’t post a review without it
Excellent small gallery. We visited this as part of a week in Cornwall, an exhibition had recently started here, unfortunately the Newlyn was still being rehung. The staff were friendly and helpful and the admission price was very reasonable. The gallery is compact but modern, and the display we saw was contemporary, but it doesn’t suffer the issues of bigger galleries which often confuse and lose focus. Overall, recommended for a visit if you want culture in Penzance, with other galleries & independent shops within a short walk.
Interesting modern Gallery linked with 'Newland Art Gallery', at the time the exhibition being displayed was "Many & Beautiful things" 29th Sep - 5th Jan. Worth a visit.
A modern gallery with a rotating series of temporary exhibitions Helpful staff. Well labelled exhibition. Nice shop. Cafe closed by Covid.
Dog friendly café. Nice books and games Perfect for kids. Calm , light and lovely.
Just went to the cafe that was light and pleasant. The staff were friendly and the coffee good.
Very disappointed. One rather limited installation exhibition most of which was not working. Cafe fully stocked but no staff to be found, similar situation in the shop. Pity as we were looking forward to this, Other galleries In Penzance more traditional but far more interesting.
Visited the Grayson Perry Exhibition. Thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits, the videos, guidance and the helpful staff and volunteers. Didn't use the cafe but the items on offer looked very nice. Thoroughly recommended.
