A great local pub with a friendly atmosphere. Meet the parents in law here fairly often and the dog comes along for the fuss

Great Traditional pub in an area that you wouldn't expect it. A wide selection of tap and bottled beers and a warm welcome is provided.

Fantastic real ale pub - proper old school! Always has a good selection of varied ales (inevitably well kept plus they never last long enough to to go off) which varies day to day - this is a free house in the best sense of the concept. It's always busy, but never to the point of being crowded, except when they run one of their festivals. A pub which can run a 4 day festival with at least 80 different barrels each year is getting something right. There is some of the fizzy stuff which passes for beer/lager in other pubs for those who haven't discovered real ale yet, but true lager fans will be well catered for by the selection of German and other bottled beer. There is food - it's no gastropub, but pies and pizza are cheap and tasty providing fuel as required. You can buy excellent crisps and pork scratchings, and there is chilli chocolate if your taste buds need waking up. Its run by an excellent landlord Kevin who knows his stuff, and is just as likely to be enjoying the footie on the TV with a pint as serving. If you like ale and pubs as they should be, it's worth a trip. I'm anticipating an annual pilgrimage for the beer festival from over 200 miles away. Nuff said!
